Did you get to the Classics Eagles Academy (U8-U14) teams' intra-club scrimmages last weekend? We had hundreds of players and parents out enjoying the beautiful weather, and getting back to soccer. We hope you had fun and got to meet some new people. This weekend the Competitive Program teams take the pitch for another weekend of intra-club competition and celebration of "The Beautiful Game".
Since The Back of the Net is intended to help you know about your Classics Eagles family, it might be good to start with some numbers.
Number of years Classics Eagles have been in existence: This is Year 7.
Number of Classics Eagles Competitive & Academy Teams: Over 110
Number of Classics Eagles Competitive & Academy Team Players: 1400+
Number of Academy Professional Coaches: 60+
Number of Competitive Program Parent Coaches: 40+
One of our main themes for the year will be a concept called Periodization. It is a term that is used by some in professional soccer and fewer in college and high school soccer. It refers to the division of the year into sections that have specific purposes for the player and the team. We as a soccer club are beginning to incorporate periodization into the club soccer year. You will hear much more about this as we progress through the year. Keeping the concept in mind, we will also deal with themes this year in The Back of the Net according to Periodization. Our goal will be to communicate interesting and practical information especially relevant to the soccer year, and build on your knowledge with a different topic each week.
For the next few weeks we will include a focus on The Classics Eagles Way, which you can read on the CE web site by clicking HERE. Here is a question based on the CE Way that all coaches, parents and players might ask as the season begins: "How do I want to be as a person as we go through this soccer year"? A great example of the CE Way in action last year was that Classics Eagles won a US Youth Soccer Fair Play Award at the USYS Region II Midwest Regional Championships this summer! You can read more about that by clicking HERE.
On the topic of player health and wellness, very soon Classics Eagles will be implementing the FIFA 11+ warmup program in conjunction with our Official Sports Medicine Partner, Orthopedic ONE. We want our players to get the best instruction in physical preparation and injury prevention for training sessions and games. We realize that a key factor in achieving this goal is to help our coaches to become more proficient in these areas. This Sunday evening, our coaches have the opportunity to get classroom and on field instruction from Dr. Peter Edwards and the staff of Orthopedic One on how to lead and teach the FIFA 11+ program. The coaches will begin to implement this program with the pools and teams they are coaching in the coming weeks. We will share more next week about this important program.
We hope your summer went well, we thank you for your support and we look forward to seeing you all very soon at the fields!
