Fare Change Proposal Meeting
Thursday, November 5
12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
Union Station, 401 S Jackson St

Sound Transit is considering offering a low-income adult fare on ST Express to align with King County Metro and Sound Transit Link light rail. To offset revenue loss, other fares (for other adults, youth, seniors and people with disabilities) would increase by 25 cents.

In March 2015, King County Metro and Sound Transit's Link light rail implemented a discounted fare of $1.50 for adult riders with incomes at or below 200% of federal poverty level* and increased fares by 25 cents for other riders. Transit partners in Snohomish and Pierce counties are not pursuing the low-income program.

* To qualify, a household of four would have an annual household income at or below $48,500.

Seattle Times Examines Efforts to Clean Up the U District
The U District is working hard to make the area safer place for all!
On October 28th the Seattle Times published an article titled, "'U Way Project' aims to purge drug deals, loitering from U District permanently." At the U District Partnership we are proud of our relationship with the University of Washington and the Seattle Police Department. We have been working together to make progress on making the Ave a cleaner and safer place for all to enjoy. We look forward to our continued success.
Congratulations to New UW President Ana Mari Cauce!
UW Regents announced new president on 10/13
The following information was taken from an article from the UW Daily, published on October 13th.

The University of Washington Board of Regents selected Interim President Ana Mari Cauce to be the 33rd president of the University at a special meeting of the board Tuesday. She is the first woman to be named to the position and the first Latina.

Born in Cuba, where her father was the minister of education, Cauce left with her family during the revolution when she was 3 years old. She grew up in Miami, where both her parents took jobs in shoe factories, hoping they could return to Cuba. Both placed a very high value on the power of education.

Cauce joined the UW faculty in 1986 as an assistant professor of psychology after earning degrees in English and psychology from the University of Miami in 1977, summa cum laude, and a Ph.D. in psychology, with a concentration in child clinical and community psychology from Yale University in 1984.

Cauce is a professor of psychology and American ethnic studies. She has held numerous leadership positions at the UW, including director of the UW Honors Program, chair of American ethnic studies, chair of psychology, executive vice provost and dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
From 2012 to 2015, prior to being appointed interim president, she served as the University's executive vice president and provost, the chief academic officer, responsible for overseeing the education, research and service missions in the University's schools, colleges and other academic units, including Academic and Student Affairs. As the UW's chief budgetary officer, she was responsible for resource allocations and worked closely with the president on strategic planning and long-term decision-making.

Thank You to the UW Facilities Team and Volunteers for a Great Clean Up on the Ave!
October 10th marked the first annual Facilities Day of Service
The UDP is extremely appreciative to the UW Facilities Services team for organizing a terrific first-ever Facilities Day of Service. On October 10th, nearly 100 members of the Facilities team dedicated their time over a blustery morning to enhancing University Way. Volunteers made a tremendous impact while carrying out tasks like cleaning local business windows, improving tree wells (with the help of four SDOT representatives), picking up trash, weed-whacking, and scraping stickers from light poles and signs.

The Facilities team's work on the Ave is part of the organization's philosophy surrounding community. "In Facilities Services, we act as citizens in a community; we're caring, and we know that when we volunteer together, what we can do becomes larger than ourselves," wrote Charles Kennedy, Associate Vice President. We look forward to this becoming an annual event with the UW Facilities team, and we are thrilled to be working with them!
