Ideas and Inspirations for The Holidays       December 17, 2014

The holidays offer us a chance to reflect and enjoy the company of our family and friends, celebrating old traditions and creating new memories.

If you can't be together with your family and friends, a beautiful holiday arrangement can take your place and show how much you care. Cheerful arrangements are the perfect gift for our loved ones who are living in assisted living facilities.

Fresh flowers can add warmth to your gatherings and are a wonderful way to say "Thank You" to your hostess.  They are the perfect gift for the neighbors.

We know how important it is to you that your floral gifts arrive on time, in the finest condition, using the freshest flowers available. We share your desires, and will do our utmost to ensure your gifts are what you want, when you want, and the highest quality.

Poinsettias are EASY to grow!

Here's an easy, elegant addition to your holiday decorations and a thoughtful gift.

Many people assume that poinsettias are hard to care for, but in reality they are quite easy.

1. Watering: do not let them become too wet or too dry. Lift the pot and feel its weight. If it feels light, give it a good drink of warm water. Feel the weight of the pot after watering to get a sense of how heavy it is when wet. Don't water again until it feels light when lifted.

When you water, water thoroughly and only use warm water. If you have a saucer or pot cover that holds water underneath the plant, be sure to drain out any excess water in order to prevent root rot.

2. Keep poinsettias away from excessive heat, drafts, or cool open doors and windows. They prefer temps. between 63-68°F (17-20°C).

3. Over watering.  If there is a problem with your poinsettia, it is usually due to watering. When in doubt, lift the pot with one hand and refer to step 1.

4. Poinsettias are not poisonous to people or pets (but we don't suggest consuming them.)

Pinehurst has a great selection of poinsettias to choose from.

How to preserve the freshness of a Holiday Centerpiece

Here are a few handy tips that can help add days to the beauty of a fresh bouquet.

Your holiday decorations will be complete when you place a beautiful centerpiece on the dining room table or on the living room coffee table.

The fresh holiday greenery and bright holiday flowers add a wonderful decorating touch as well as the smell of fresh pine and spruce you miss when you use a permanent Christmas tree. Holiday centerpieces are also the perfect gift to give.

There are a few easy steps to make sure your fresh arrangement lasts throughout the holidays.

  • Keep them in a cool spot (65 to 72 degrees), away from direct sunlight, heating or cooling vents, and direct drafts from a ceiling vent. Cool temperatures and protection from the sun will extend the life of your arrangement.

  • The greenery and flowers are very thirsty. Check the water on a daily basis. We process our greens with a special treatment to help them last longer. With proper water, they will last for weeks. Be sure to protect your fine wood surfaces from the moisture.

  • Remove flowers as they start to wilt, preserving the rest of the bouquet. Arrangements with holiday greens will continue to look good for an extended period of time, even after the flowers are gone.
An everlasting, permanent centerpiece can be used for many years. The permanent holiday greens we use today are so realistic it is really hard to tell that they won't wilt with time. We have beautiful one-of-a-kind centerpieces to choose from that will add years of beauty to your holidays.
