Ideas and Inspirations for living                                         June 13, 2014

With the warm weather, the plants in the landscape are growing quickly.  Unfortunately the weeds are growing even faster.  Be sure to keep them under control and don't let them go to seed.  Be sure to use the proper herbicide for the problem you are trying to solve. The staff at Pinehurst is here to help you, whether you have grass growing in your iris or flower bed, morning glory in your grass, or weeds in your garden.

Be sure to try the Down Under Plant Stands. I use them under all the pots on my deck and front porch. They eliminate the ugly water stains you get when watering planters on wood and concrete.

As we have been landscaping over the last week, we have seen several grubs in the lawns.  Now is the time to use Grub Free Zone, before they get the best of your lawn.

All you ladies, be sure to call your girlfriends and plan to attend Ladies Night, June 27th from 6 pm to 8 pm. It promises to be a really fun event.

Don't miss the great Hanging Basket Sale!  Friday thru Sunday they are 30% OFF.  They are beautiful!

Happy gardening!

Black Lace Elderberry

Black Lace Elderberry

BLACK LACE is a stunning Elderberry, also know as Sambucus.

Intense purple black foliage is finely cut, giving it an effect similar to that of Japanese maple. Indeed, some designers are using it in place of the more sensitive acer varieties since BLACK LACE is extremely durable and adaptable. Creamy pink flowers in spring contrast nicely with the dark leaves. They are followed by blackish red fall berries which can be harvested for making elderberry wine and jam, or left on the plant to attract birds and other wildlife.

BLACK LACE is very cold hardy and easy to grow, and adaptable to most sites. Full sun is needed for the best color, but it will also perform well in part shade. It can be used as a dramatic accent plant, planted en masse for a trouble free high hedge, or incorporated into the mixed or perennial border. Left alone it will reach up to 8 feet in height, but BLACK LACE can also be pruned back each year to fit into more formal settings or trimmed to form a small multi-stemmed tree.

This beautiful plant is blooming now in the landscape at Pinehurst.  Get yours while the supply lasts!
