ShibuiMixPartyCome Mix with Us: Shibui Mix Party, July 9 from 1:00-3:00pm
You're Invited
Have you wanted to experiment with Shibui Yarns?  Are you eager to learn how to combine yarns and colors, expanding their use and creating unique fabrics and textures?

Shibui Yarns are glorious in quality and color intensity. The Shibui line consists of nine (9) natural fiber yarns which are knitted alone or in combination with each other...the MIX Concept. Mixing two or more fiber strands is a creative way to make knitted fabric that is uniquely delicious.

Our Shibui Mix Party
During our Shibui Mix Party on Saturday, July 9 from 1:00-3:00pm, Britt-Mari will explain the Mix concept and you'll experiment with a variety of fibers and different gauges to create new and fabulous combinations.*

Mix Party participants will receive a complete sample kit of the Shibui base yarns for a true hands-on experience.* Shibui Mix patterns are written to take advantage of this concept and to showcase yarn blends.  You'll take away not only inspiration, but your own small set of MIX swatches.

We will have a large collection of Trunk Show garments made with new Rain and other Shibui yarns available in the shop on Saturday, in support of the Mix Party.

To Register
Your prepaid fee of $10.00 will reserve your space and will be applicable to your purchase of Shibui yarn on Saturday afternoon, following the event.  Seating is limited.  Click here to register online, or call or come in to the shop.

*Participants should bring knitting needles in US sizes 4-9 to experiment with all the yarns.
SlippedStKnitsThe Art of Slip-Stitch Knitting I and II with Faina Goberstein
Master The Art of Slip-Stitch Knitting with local author, designer, and instructor Faina Goberstein.  Faina will be sharing her discoveries, her tips, tricks, and instruction in this very special workshop on Saturday, July 16.  Join us for the morning or stay for the full day!

In The Art of Slip-Stitch Knitting I (10am-1pm), we will take a look at the usage of slipped stitches and we'll explore all four groups of very different slip-stitch techniques in solid and multi-color yarns.

We will talk about different groups of slip-stitch patterns that are fresh, modern and mind-blowing, and you'll practice working with these techniques and patterns.

In The Art of Slip-Stitch Knitting II, we will take a look at different orientations of slip-stitch patterns (horizontal, vertical, diagonal) and awareness of that when choosing the pattern for your project, stitch pattern placement, reengineering stitches, and combining stitch patterns as well as the yarns and colors that make the slip-stitch knitting the best it can be.

Learn the techniques and use them for creating amazing projects. Mix them with other techniques, play with colors, change directions, or number of stitches involved to produce a masterpiece every time.

In this special one-day event, you may sign up for just Slip-Stitch Knitting I (10am-1pm, $60), or both Slip-Stitch Knitting I and II (10am-5pm, with an hour break for lunch, $110)

Click here to register online, or call or come into the shop.  Your fee reserves your space in this very special workshop and seating is limited.

What's Hot in the Shop this Summer?
  • Sandshore
Customers and staff alike are knitting Sandshore, a sweet summer cardigan by Alicia Plummer.  This simple pattern, popular again this year, is perfect when knit with Juniper Moon's Zooey.  Make one, then make another, to expand your summer wardrobe.
  • Waiting for Rain, by Softsweater Knits, is a new sample on loan to us from Danielle.  Several customers are combining colors for this generously long crescent shawl, interspersed with lacy short-row sections.  Danielle's shawl pairs Zen Yarn Garden's Serenity 20 with Canon Hand Dye's Gradient Cake.  Come in to see this lovely piece before it returns to Danielle's shoulders.
  • Socks, socks, socks!  Grab your favorite sock pattern and knit a pair.  Whether your preferred method is cuff-down or toe-up, using Magic Loop or double-points, join the fun as we knit socks.  They are portable projects, they make great gifts, and we have so many self-striping and self-patterning yarns to choose from.
  • PonchoNaranja
Kathy and Yvonne in Poncho Naranja
Ponchos galore!  In addition to the ever-classic Churchmouse Easy Folded Poncho, customers are knitting an open, airy Poncho Naranja designed by our very own Yvonne Poon, now available on Ravelry.  Read about Yvonne's inspiration for this adaptable accessory in her pattern description.  Both patterns are available for Ravelry In-Store purchase if you'd like a nice printed copy.
