March Madness!!!
After a relatively calm January and February, March launched a month of feverish activity, starting with the rescue of Sadie the 14 Freeway Dog. Since then, we've been hopping! See what we've been up to: trapping, puppies, neuters, you name it!
Since Sadie's story published in the Antelope Valley Press, we've made many contacts with other local rescue groups. It's so gratifying how many people in our area are working to save the dogs and cats (and others!) from neglect, abandonment, and cruelty. We've listed these organizations below to acknowledge their tireless contributions to local animal welfare.
We noticed that only a few readers have been viewing the Videos of the Month. There's a list of past videos to the right--give yourselves a treat and watch them. Plus, many of you were reluctant to view the picture in the story of the alligator attacked by a dog pack, thinking it would be too gruesome. We'd never include anything that was actually showing cruelty, so we're reposting it in this issue. Please do yourself a favor--read this and have a chuckle. Meanwhile, enjoy the issue! Remember: We can only do this with your help! All donations go directly to vet bills, housing, and food for the dogs we care for.
Just click on the PayPal button below to make any donation (even $5 or $10 helps!). You can also set up an automatic monthly donation.

Rescues of the Month Mojo
Another day, another rescue!!
 | With pals at SNIP HQ--a happy ending for Mojo! |
Recently, two local women, Jayme Mejia (above right, with her children) and Michelley Benitez (above left), who'd been feeding an abandoned dog in the desert, contacted us, requesting help trapping the dog.
Kyle Young, a trap and transport professional (http://animalrescueandtransport.com/), he came to our rescue. We all met at the site and formed a plan--we'd set up the trap, Jayme would check it every hour or so, and when the dog was in the trap we'd meet back at the site, and Susan would take him home.
 | "Team Mojo" Michelley, Kyle, and Jayme | About 10:00 that evening, Jayme called to say that the dog was in the trap!! Within the hour, he was on his way to a warm bed, food, and safety. We're calling him Mojo, and he's an absolute love. He's actually housetrained!

 | Carolyn had Mojo walking on leash within a day | We think he's a Shar-Pei mix because of his purple tongue and gums. A few days after the rescue, Michelley and Jayme and her kids came to SNIP HQ to visit, and he was a perfect gentleman with the ladies and Jayme's young children (photo at top).
He's now being fostered by one of Carolyn's clients, and we'll keep you posted on his progress.

Billy
A kindly old neighbor called to tell us that a beautiful Husky puppy had been abandoned on the lot next to him, left chained in a chicken coop with the owner took off.
He currently has two families interested in adopting him, and as soon as he's placed we'll update you!

Neuter of the Month Widow
This beautiful young female was just about the age to get pregnant, so we prevailed upon the owners to get her spayed. They wanted to "let her have one litter," but Susan convinced them that it wasn't such a good idea (whew!). She's now back with her owners, and safe from having puppies!

The Pet Detective Talk About Bad Hair Days!
Our intrepid Pet Detective was cruising around the back roads in Lake LA when she spotted these dogs on a local abandoned property. When she inquired at a neighbor's house, she was told that the owner does come by to feed them. But they are so terribly matted! With summer coming on, we are obsessed with getting them shaved down and bathed. We're attempting to contact the owner to get permission to take them for grooming, and we'll keep you posted!

Last month's puppies have all been adopted!! We're getting the Mom spayed next week.

At times nature can be cruel, but there is also a raw beauty, and even a certain justice, in that cruelty.
The alligator, normally an "apex predator," can still fall victim to team work, as in this case of a dog pack attacking an alligator.
Note that the alpha dog has a muzzle hold on the gator, preventing it from breathing, while another dog has a hold on the tail to stop it from thrashing. The third dog attacks the soft underbelly of the gator. See this remarkable photo courtesy of Nature

About SNIP
SNIP is a 501(c)(3) promoting the spay/neuter of domestic pets in Lake Los Angeles and Littlerock in Southern California.
Our service is unique in that we pick up pet from the owner, take it to the vet for surgery, and either return it to the owner or find it a home. SNIP bears the entire cost of the neuter.
We rely on the expert assistance of High Desert Animal Care and the Littlerock Pet Clinic, and donations from pet lovers who know the vital importance of keeping pet population under control so pets are not abandoned in the desert or neglected and mistreated at home.
We want all pets to be lovingly cared for!
