Come to the Undergraduate Research Symposium!

The Undergraduate Research Symposium is finally here!  The presenting students have been busy preparing to share their research and creative scholarship, so be sure to try to make it out this Saturday, April 27th, to learn about their projects.

 Here are a few highlights:

  • The day's events kick off at 1:00 with the opening session.  View the detailed schedule of events.
  • New this year: we'll have graduate student panels throughout the day to discuss how undergrads can utilize their undergraduate research experience.
  • The event is open to the public, and we encourage everyone to attend.  KU undergraduate students who attend all three sessions are eligible to enter into a drawing to win a $50 gift card!

We hope to see you there!

Journal of Undergraduate Research now Accepting Submissions

Did you know that KU has its very own undergraduate research journal?  The Journal of Undergraduate Research is now accepting submissions from all undergraduates for publication in the 2013 edition.  This is a great venue for students to share the products of their scholarship.  The deadline for submissions is May 24.

The Journal accepts the following types of work:
  • Research Briefs/ Artist Statements (1-4 pages):  These shorter documents provide a concise overview of your project, and are often reports about projects in-progress or a shorter paper for a class.  Artist statements will be submitted along with images, and should explain the methods, themes, and inspiration of your work.
  • Full manuscripts (7-25 pages):  These longer documents offer a fuller exploration of a topic than a research brief, and are often the results of a larger class paper, capstone project, or senior thesis.

Get Recognized for your Research: KU's Research Experience Program

Undergraduate students interested in highlighting their research experiences in their resumes and applications should consider applying for KU's Research Experience Program, a certification that recognizes students' undergraduate research experiences with an official notation on their KU transcript.  To complete the certificate, students take coursework and conduct an independent research project.  The full list of qualifying courses, as well as more details about the certification, can be found on our website:

Graduating seniors interested in receiving REP certification: you must complete the online application form before you graduate to be eligible.  The deadline for applying is May 17th!
