| Dr. Sophia Omoro's Blooming Lily Foundation, which helps people in her native Kenya and cancer patients in St. Tammany, will hold its first gala on November 15 (photo courtesy of Dr. S. Omoro). |
Dr. Sophia Omoro, '93, otolaryngologist and fashion designer originally from Kenya, has established the Blooming Lily Foundation, "to empower women to lead, [and] positively fulfill their destiny and give back."
Omoro feels that she is "optimally placed (and obligated) to connect people globally so we can make a positive difference in our own lives, and someone else's."
A fundraising gala is scheduled for November 15 in Covington, La. By the end of this year, Omoro and Blooming Lily are looking to sponsor a thyroid cancer support group in St. Tammany Parish, La., and to support their "give back" project of printing the first patient-written handbook for newly- diagnosed [cancer] patients. Additional projects are a health fair at Kochia Village, Kenya, and support of a Kendu women's self-help group. MORE
