Changing the World through Student Philanthropy

by Imani Cherry, development assistant
Oakwood University is now stretching its philanthropic efforts to include current students. The Oakwood University Student Philanthropy (OUSP) Campaign is a brand new initiative intended to procure a tradition of giving and a spirit of philanthropy starting before students leave the campus of Oakwood University. The Campaign provides an opportunity to emphasize the importance of philanthropy and gain a deeper understanding of the impact of philanthropy at Oakwood.
Student philanthropists aim to instill a spirit of giving, and advance the University through philanthropic endeavors, turning philanthropy into meaningful changes. OUSP focuses on serving and advancing local and global communities through volunteerism, fundraising, activism, and education. The Campaign ultimately seeks to serve the Oakwood community, the Huntsville community, and the global community, which is reflected in its slogan "It's Our Oakwood, Our Community, Our World."
Funds raised by the OUSP Campaign contribute to the Oakwood University Annual Fund and is designated for annual philanthropic ventures.
Each year the OUSP Campaign will champion a cause relevant to today. This year's cause is environmental sustainability through recycling - The Blue & Gold Goes Green Recycling Challenge. This project is a system that seeks to encourage recycling at the University, with hopes to bring awareness to the importance of environmental sustainability in today's world.
