More scenes from Faculty Staff Colloquium 2013 ...
From the powerful daily devotionals by Pastor Debleaire Snell, to the panel discussion on balancing work and life; from the technical and educational presentations to the division updates; from Thursday's the fellowship lunch, to Friday night's Agape Feast and Sunday's University Family Celebration Picnic -- it can truly be said: "It was good to have been here." During Friday night's Vesper Service and Agape Feast, Assistant Professor Ifeoma Kwesi (right) and all other attendees corporately read the "Blessing of the Hands," asking our Heavenly Father to "Help us to remember that by our presence, our words, and our actions, we offer to others Your life, Your hope and Your love. You have given us hands to touch one another's lives with comfort and healing. Help us never to use our hands to push away those whom we need, nor those who need us. Help us to reach for you in our moments of calm and frustration, anxiety and peace, grief and joy. May we use our gifts to bring healing to those whom you place in our care. Bless our hearts and hands and guide us to use them to make whole what is broken in our world."
During his final "official" presentation as a staff member in the Office of Spiritual Life, Assistant Chaplain T. Marshall Kelley shared words of wisdom, testimony and encouragement.

2013 Henry C. McBay Research Fellowship Awards announced
The Office of Research and Grants announces Dr. Elaine Vanterpool of the Department of Biological Sciences (left) and Dr. Don Rufus Ranatunga of the Department of Chemistry as recipients of the 2013 Henry C. McBay Research Fellowship Award.
Dr. Elaine Vanterpool
This program, open to faculty of UNCF Institutions, provides fellowships of up to $12,000 to support research in a field of the recipient's choosing.
Dr. Don Rufus Ranatunga
Projects range in length from one summer, to one academic year, with starting dates between September and June.
Dr. Vanterpool's study, titled "The role of GcpMB in Staphylococcus aureus virulence" has two specific aims: (1) to determine the physical interaction of GcpMB with the major virulence factors of S. aureus; and (2) to generate and characterize a GcpMB-defective isogenic mutant of S. aureus.
Dr. Ranatunga will investigate the "Behavior and Transformation of Engineered Metal Nanoparticles in Aqueous Environments" with a focus on the adverse impacts that nanoparticles may exert on the plant and soil environment. The results of his study should provide some important and valuable insights into understanding the behavior, transformation, and phytotoxicity of some engineered nanoparticles in soil solution and suspension.
Please join us in saluting these two researchers!
Dr. Prudence Pollard, Vice President
Mrs. Lucy Cort, Grant Specialist
