Oakwood's Aeolians set to croon 'cross the Pond'

As our award-winning, world champion Aeolians prepare to travel "across the Pond" to tour through England, we wanted to let you know that orders for their "Aeolianology OU 101" CD and/or DVD - recorded live with the Chamber Orchestra - can be placed by sending an email to [email protected].

President hosts SCC Pastors' and their Spouses

Elder Michael Harpe, SCC Stewardship Director, and Mrs. Selita Harpe, employee at Oakwood University, listen intently.
Just before the end of the recent
South Central Conference Camp Meeting, on Friday, June 7, 2013, President and Mrs. Leslie Pollard hosted their annual appreciation/update luncheon for its pastors and their spouses, held in the Powell Auditorium of the Bradford-Cleveland-Brooks Leadership Center

Dr. Pollard thanked the attendees for their continuing support in Christian role-modeling, recruitment, financial support and daily voting support in the recent Home Depot "Retool Your School" historic victory.

Pastor and Mrs. Carlton and Danielle Byrd serve themselves some lunch.

Later, the media center showed the "Oakwood University Spring 2013 Report" - now available on YouTube - followed by the president fielding a series of audience questions, ranging from student summer mission trips to the ongoing $9.3M capital campaign.

In spite of the rain, a good time was had by all. . .

Over 300 Oakwoodites of all ages gathered in the Student Dining Hall for the first Oakwood Alumni Old Fashion' Cook Out and Potluck on Sunday, June 9.  The event was originally set for outdoors near the Unity Pond, but the day's weather reports led the Advancement & Development Team to move the event inside.

Guests fellowshipped and reiminisced, listening to the comical comments from MC Jeff Johnson and the music of a live band.  Dr. Leslie Pollard and Ms. Kisha Norris (pictured here with Ms. Sabrina Cotton) greeted attendees and thanked them for attending. As promised, vegetarian hot dogs and burgers, chips, drink and watermelon were provided.

Thanks to the team from Alumni Relations and Advancement & Development for coordinating the event.

During a reprieve from the rain, a three-leg race and water balloon toss were played outside.  From all indications, future Oakwoodites had a great time!
Whether indoors or out, what picnic is complete without a watermelon eating contest?
