Extra Blessings at Final Fall Chapel

by Michele Solomon

Project Manager - Registrar's Office

A wave of excitement rippled across the faces of the audience as the winners of seven Apple iPods and two iPad Minis were announced at the final Chapel of the Fall Semester on Thursday, November 29, at the Oakwood University Church. This announcement was the culmination of a campaign to encourage students to use the new automated online registration system to register early for the upcoming Spring 2013 Semester.

...and the winners are:

Gillis Akins (junior), Kyndra Clark (freshman), Kristain Coke (junior), Cheryl Harris (freshman), Johanna Jean-Jacques (junior), Donielle Lindsay (senior), Shakari Martin (freshman), and Breana Norris (sophomore).

The happy recipients made their way to the platform amidst applause and cheers to receive their new iPods and iPads, some of whom had won purely by default, due to the absence of peers who were not present at the Chapel service and were therefore eliminated from the ("must be present to win") drawing.

There will be two more opportunities to win these coveted devices, and those chances will go to any student who financially clears prior to the end of the fall semester.

Monica Sudeall-Hawkins, Registrar (r), and John Hill, Assistant Registrar, announce the winners at Chapel on November 29.

Recently, Monica Sudeall-Hawkins, the new Oakwood University Registrar, expressed the desire to move the registration process to a paperless system that would employ the latest technologies and eliminate lengthy lines at the Millet Activity Center or the Gymnasium and the running back and forth between stations. The process has been streamlined to allow students to navigate easily through the registration process by following the easy steps outlined online.

The early registration campaign was a combined effort of the Registrar's Office staff members and the Registration Committee. Mrs. Sudeall-Hawkins expresses her appreciation for the departmental contributions that were made toward the purchase of the giveaway items and of the support of the Oakwood administration, all of which helped to make the campaign a success. A special thank-you is extended to the following individuals:

George Ashley -- Asst. VP, Academic Affairs

James Butler -- Director, Administrative Systems

Leah Caldwell -- Dean, West Oaks Apartments

Sabrina Cotton -- VP, Financial Affairs

Garland Dulan -- VP, Academic Affairs

Ethel Griffin -- Director, CAS

James Hutchison -- Executive Director, SES

David Knight -- VP, Student Services

Joylyn Trotman -- Director, Financial Aid

Paula Wilson -- Director, Student Accounts

Students will need to watch their Oakwood email over the next few weeks as updates regarding the new registration procedures will be forthcoming.
