Tree Night, Baccalaureate Mass Start
Good-byes for the Class of 2015

As family and friends watched, the 168 members of the Class of 2015 on Thursday celebrated Tree Night and the Baccalaureate Mass, following in the footsteps of thousands of SJA women before them.

The evening began with graduates processing down the front steps of the Academy to the sounds of "Quintet for Clarinet and Strings in A" by Mozart. Standing before a packed crowd of family and friends, President Mary Ann Corrigan-Davis '71 welcomed the guests and Sisters Kathleen Carey, CSJ '49 and Madeline Lammermeier, CSJ '44, the Class of 2015 Prayer and Presence Partners, provided the opening prayer.

Senior Samantha Velasco read from "Oh, The Places You'll Go!" by Dr. Seuss. A perennial favorite, Dr. Seuss's wonderfully wise words address life's ups and downs, while encouraging readers to find the success that lies within.

The Senior Leadership Team of Halle Armstrong, Grace Hendryx, Mary McKenna and Sarah Reardon performed the ceremonial planting of the class tree, symbolizing that the soon-to-be alumnae will always have roots at SJA. The ceremony ended with the singing of the Alma Mater on the front steps.

After the students removed their caps and gowns, the Baccalaureate Mass followed in The Academy Center. Presider was the Rev. Thomas G. Fanta, uncle of senior Katherine Fanta. Also participating were Mr. Terence and Mrs. Laura Fallon Fibbi '77, parents of Meghan '05, Kathleen '07, Maura '09, Bridget '12 and Clare '15.

SPORTS
Rugby - Ready for State Title!

The Jaguar rugby team will go for its fifth state title in the last six seasons on Saturday at 5:15 p.m. against Hudson High School. The game will be played at the Hudson High School stadium. The Jaguars earned the right to compete for the title thanks to a 75-0 win over Medina Highland in the state semifinals on Saturday, May 23.  SJA is currently ranked 6th in the nation in high school girls rugby. Good luck, Jaguars!

Crew - JV is #6 in Nation!

Crew finished its spring season in impressive fashion this past weekend at the National Scholastic Rowing Association Championships held in Camden, NJ.  SJA sent two boats and 20 athletes to compete in the championships. The freshman 8+ boat had a strong showing in their first heat, but did not advance to the next round. The JV8+ boat made SJA rowing history however as they advanced through two rounds into the Grand Final race, where they finished in 6th place. It marked the first time in school history that an SJA boat competed in the grand final race, which means that the JV8+ was the 6th fastest boat in the country this year!  Congratulations to all on a great season and a bright future for SJA rowing!
