DOUBLING IMPACT OF NEW GIFTS: LENNON CHALLENGE
Never let it be said that Saint Joseph Academy and our supporters can't meet a challenge! On October 17, 2012, The Fred A. Lennon Charitable Trust issued the challenge: if we raised $25,000 in new gifts to the Expanding Minds ~ Building Futures ~ Raising Leaders capital campaign, they would match those gifts dollar-for-dollar. Challenge met! In the months following the challenge, 291 donors made 301 gifts to the campaign. Thank you to all of you who made this happen! The impact of each gift was doubled...and now we have the chance to do it again.
Since we achieved the first challenge, The Fred A. Lennon Charitable Trust is renewing it. That means that starting on October 17, 2013, all new gifts that we receive for the campaign will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $25,000. This gift is helping us close the gap on the final stage of the campaign.
Please consider helping us meet this next challenge with a gift and by encouraging others to make their first gift to the Expanding Minds ~ Building Futures ~ Raising Leaders campaign. Thank you!

GREAT LAKES THEATER ACTORS VISIT SJA
|
 | | American Literature students act out a scene from "The Crucible." |
Literature came to life for SJA students during their English classes the first week of October, thanks to dramatic interpretations and analysis offered by Great Lakes Theater actors. During visits to the classrooms, the thespians acted out scenes from such classics being studied as "The Crucible" by Arthur Miller.
During one of the sessions, held in English department chair Michelle Kelly-Flanagan's American Literature class, actors Tim Keo and Katelyn Cornelius brought in costumes and helped students stage scenes from the famous play. In addition, they acted out a short scene, bringing home the drama and impact of Arthur Miller's words. During each step of the process, the actors posed questions to the group, pushing the students to think about characters' motivations and feelings.

HONOR LOVED ONES WITH ANGEL ON 'TRIBUTE' TREE
|
Once again, Saint Joseph Academy is decorating a "tribute" Christmas tree in the Holy Family Chapel. It will be decorated with very special angel ornaments, each sponsored to honor a loved one, or the memory of a beloved who has passed away. The tree will go up on Monday, December 2, and will remain on display until early January. During this time, the Congregation of St. Joseph and the entire SJA community will pray for the individuals remembered on the tree. Each angel commemoration costs $20 and all donations will be used to advance the mission of Saint Joseph Academy.
To purchase a tribute online, go to www.sja1890.org/christmasangel, or send your name, address, phone number, email address, and the names to be included on the tree ("In memory of" or "In honor of") to Saint Joseph Academy, Alumnae Office, 3470 Rocky River Drive, Cleveland, OH 44111.
This tree is truly a unique way to honor your loved ones with a special "angel"!
Thank you!

SJA golfers are in the North East Ohio Independent Girls Golf League, a conference comprised of 10 teams. This season, our Varsity golfers performed well. In the League Tournament at Hawthorne Valley Country Club, the Jaguars finished 6th. The match play record was eight and eight, and the team's best tournament finish was a 3rd place finish at the North Olmsted Invitational. They were just short of advancing to the District Tournament, finishing 5th in a field in which only the top four teams get to go to the state qualifier at the Legends of Massillon. Junior Kaitlin Rose and senior Lindsey Keefe led the team with scoring averages of 43 and 46. Kaitlin took medalist honors at the North Olmsted Invitational, and Lindsey taking medalist honors in the annual at Westwood Country Club Matches. Playing in the No. 3 and No. 4 positions were sophomore Alicia Abele and freshman Lauren Zawie. This duo played in every event and provided excellent scores throughout the season. The fifth spot on the team was shared between Nicole Hetrick '15, Clare Tirpak '16, Emily Skodny '15 and Hannah Hill '16. This group has earned their Varsity letter and will provide a solid foundation for next year's Varsity team. Head Golf Coach Joe Battaglia is the husband of Dorothy Modarski Battaglia N'78 and father of Katie Battaglia '13. The Assistant Golf Coach is Maureen Fallon Adler '79, mother of Erin Adler '06, Mary Grace Adler '08 and Eileen Adler '10.
