What's Happening in Boise School District

August 6:   Families will enjoy a fun-filled evening of kids' activities and great films on seven evenings for Movies Under the Stars in Boise. 
The fun begins at 7 p.m. with free games for kids provided by the Boise Parks & Recreation Mobile Recreation Van. Kids will get moving with capture the flag, dodgeball and other field games.

At dusk, family-friendly movies are shown on a huge 30' inflatable movie screen.

The free family movies and fun are presented by Boise Parks & Recreation and the Boise Schools Education Foundation with support from Wesselman Solutions. Remaining movies and locations include:
  • Aug 6 - The Good Dinosaur, Borah Park, 801 S. Aurora
  • Aug 20 - Inside Out, Julia Davis Park, 700 S. Capitol Blvd.
  • Sept 9 - Zootopia, Hobble Creek Park, 6050 N. Park Meadow Way
August 8:  Boise School Board Meeting, 5:30 p.m., Boise School District Services Center, 8169 W. Victory Rd., Boise. Agenda will be posted here. Public is invited to attend.

August 29:  At 6:00 p.m. at the Boise School District Services Center, Board Room, 8169 W. Victory Road, Boise, you will have an opportunity to meet the three candidates running in the September 6th Boise School Board Election. September 5:  Labor Day. No School K-12 students. 

September 6:  Boise School Board election.  Two trustees will be elected each with a six year term. Polling locations will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. throughout the Boise District. Timberline Student Honored by Google: Alex  Howard (pictured), Timberline High, Junior, has been honored by Google for his efforts to remove lead from drinking water. Howard is the North American Regional Winner of the First Google Science Fair Community Impact Award inspired by the lead drinking water problems in Flint, Michigan. Alex created an affordable lead filter using products like sugar, water, and interestingly enough, sea shells. Click here to learn more.

Applications Now Being Accepted for Free & Reduced Price Meals:  Boise School District participates in the USDA National School Breakfast and Lunch Programs. Free and reduced price meals are provided to qualifying children unable to pay the full price for meals.  Applications are currently being  accepted. Free Developmental Screenings:  Boise School District provides free developmental screenings for children ages 3 to 5 with developmental concerns. You may call 854-5520 to set-up an appointment if you have a child who may have possible delays in the following areas:
  • Speech
  • Language
  • Concepts
  • Motor Skills
  • Self Help Skills
  • Social Emotional
  • Vision
  • Hearing.
Screening dates:

Shelley Retter
District Administrator to Receive State Award:  Shelley Retter, Special Education Supervisor, Boise School District, has been named the recipient of the 2016 Idaho Association of School Administrators (IASA) Distinguished Service Award.  The Idaho Association of Special Education Administrators will celebrate this accomplishment on August 4, 2016 at the IASA Summer Leadership Conference Awards Luncheon in Boise.

Fairmont Jr. High Food Service Manager Receives State Recognition:  The Idaho School Nutrition Association has awarded Judy Bedford, Foodservice Manager, Fairmont Jr. High School, the Manager of the Year Award, considered the highest honor a school nutrition manager can earn. The award recognizes a school cafeteria manager who has demonstrated dedication and ingenuity to improve his or her school meal program.  Click here to learn more.  





Bold Gold Program Seeking Students:  The YMCA is seeking students ages 11 to 17 to participate in their Bold Gold Program, which is an outdoor leadership development program where participants experience an outdoor wilderness environment as part of a transformative teen leadership experience.  Trips are scheduled Aug. 1 -6, Aug. 8-13 and Aug. 15-20. Federal Campaign Underway to Raise Awareness about Human Trafficking:   The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has launched a public awareness campaign to fight human trafficking.  Human trafficking is the coercion of individuals to participate in forced labor, domestic servitude, or the sex trade against their will. The Blue Campaign is designed to increase awareness of human trafficking in the United States and offers free resources to raise awareness and educate others to recognize and report human trafficking.
