District Announces Administrative Appointment

 

Boise, ID  -- 06/02/14 -- Boise School District is pleased to announce the following administrative appointment, effective the beginning of the 2014-15 school year.

 

Dr. Betty Olson - Administrator of Student Programs in charge of Special Education, Alternative Programs, Summer School and in conjunction with Professional Development, Curriculum and Federal Programs

 

Dr. Betty Olson has served students in the Boise School District for 30 years. During that time, she has worked as a classroom teacher (6 years - Liberty Elementary), elementary assistant principal (1 year - White Pine), elementary school principal (19 years - Liberty, Hawthorne and Adams), and secondary principal (4 years - currently South Jr. High).  Betty has also worked as an Adjunct Professor at Boise State University in the University's Master Degree Program, Educational Leadership.


Betty is a dedicated education professional who puts students first in everything she does. She is a hard working, respected and knowledgeable education leader who believes in the District's Vision of preparing each child for success in college, career and citizenship.  She is committed to providing students with academic rigor that challenges each student to think critically and to do their very best in school and in life.


Dr. Olson has extensive experience in successfully implementing a wide variety of school-wide learning initiatives, including the AVID program to help middle performing secondary students prepare for college, career and life in the global economy,  Look 2 Learning - a research-based tool that allows schools to improve student achievement and Professional Learning Communities for REAL - a professional development model that trains educators to develop an unrelenting focus on learning in their schools. In addition, Betty has served as a District trainer on a number of professional development initiatives that allow District educators to offer the finest education possible.


Dr. Olson has served as a national presenter at professional development conferences, engaging educators with the latest information and data on improving learning opportunities for each and every student.    


Betty earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Northwest Missouri State University, a Master of Arts Degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction from Boise State University, a Specialist Degree in Educational Administration from the University of Idaho and a Doctoral Degree in Educational Administration from Northwest Nazarene University.


Dr. Olson will begin her new position as Administrator of Student Programs in charge of Special Education, Alternative Programs, Summer School and in conjunction with Professional Development, Curriculum and Federal Programs at the start of the 2014-15 school year.
