Here's a list of Community Education classes beginning the week of May 5th. Register up to the day a class begins!  
 
BECOME A FLY FISHING EXPERT ON SILVER CREEK:  Silver Creek is one of the best spring creeks in America.  Anglers from all over the West travel to Silver Creek every year to ply their trade at the "Graduate School of Fly Fishing."  Learn the geographical layout of the creek and the hatches and the strategies that successful anglers use when fishing Silver Creek. BUY & MANAGE RENTALS:  Lead by a local real estate broker, students will learn how to get a great buy, where the bargains are in today's market, how to manage the property themselves and/or what to require your management company to do. Click here for details and to register. 

  

CHOCOLATE OR LEMON-WHY DECIDE?:  You can love both chocolate and lemon desserts... No need to decide! Learn how to make the perfect celebration cake for the chocolate lover and the most luscious lemon bars around. Click here for details and to register. 

  

ESSENTIAL COMPUTER SKILLS:  For beginners!  Learn basic terms, step-by-step use of the computer and the Windows environment, as well as a brief overview of software applications.   Class is for PCs not MACs.  This class is for people who think that if you touch the computer, you'll break it, and you will never figure out how to use it.  You can ask all of those questions you were afraid to ask! FLY FISHING SECRETS FOR THE OWYHEE RIVER:  The Owhyee River is the best brown trout fishery in North America. It is not uncommon to catch many brown trout over 20 inches in one day. This class emphasizes this river's entomology, matching the hatch and the best flies to use on this river to catch brown trout. GARDENING FOR RENTERS: Think you can't have a garden because you rent? Think again! There are special challenges for renters & condo owners, but it can be done. Click here for details and to register.  

  

GET BENT - UNDERSTAND & LOVE YOUR CURLS:  There is a way to live with and love your curls! Understand their inner workings, treat them with respect and they will bring you joy! Students will learn the science and anatomy of curls, the reasons why the "straight hair" world of products and styling will never work for your delicate curls, plus how to care for, cut and live with your curls in harmony. HANDCRAFTED HOME DECOR:  Come get your hands on a fun project that will freshen up your home decor. Using wooden shapes, milk paint, assorted embellishments and some special techniques, you can create a one-of-a- kind home decoration. Click here for details and to register. 

  

HP LIFE TRAINING - PROJECT MANAGEMENT:   This topic introduces the start-up entrepreneur to project management as the practice of planning, executing and controlling a large-scale project. Students will be introduced to an open source project management tool that allows them to manage a project while implementing multiple deadlines, resources and be able to monitor the progress as a whole. KARATE: SHORIN-RYU FOR SENIORS:  In this class, you will learn the Shorin-Ryu style of Karate. The emphasis is on basic techniques and training that can improve flexibility and balance. Kicks are mid to low line and the style does not emphasize the acrobatic techniques. Click here for details and to register. 
 
KNITTING - BEGINNING: Learn the basics including how to cast on, cast off, knit and purl, and begin a project with the help and guidance of a knitting whiz. Instructor will cover basic supplies, books, useful websites and terminology. Click here for details and to register. 

LISTENING TO THE STONES:  Each one of us has a story inside that is just waiting to burst forth. Stones are as ancient as the Earth and hold the stories of the planet. Students will sit quietly to experience 'creative listening', as they open to the energy of the stones and bring into the world the beginnings of their very own story. MAKE OVER YOUR MEDICINE CABINET WITH ESSENTIAL OILS: Learn to tackle your family's health needs through a natural, common sense approach to health care. You will learn what oils you can use to replace the over-the-counter remedies for a variety of health concerns. Samples provided! Click here for details and to register. 

MAKE YOUR OWN GLASS CUP: In this workshop, you and an instructor work together to create your own glass cup. You will learn basic functions in the glass blowing studio and how to use certain tools, all while creating your very own cup! MOMMY & ME AROMA TOUCH WITH ESSENTIAL OILS: Come learn the method of applying essential oils to: calm, boost immunity, decrease pain & inflammation and create balance within you and your little one. PAPERCRAFT ATOMIC POLYGONS!: Join the exciting world of cereal box scientific tools!   These hand-built polygons are fun and educational for curious minds of any age. Children as young as 4 years old can color and count the shapes and play stacking games, while elders might want to engage in a quick game in the Atomic Arena. PEANUT BRITTLE: Learn how to make this classic sweet treat by a local chef and culinary expert. Learn tips, tricks and ingredients necessary, then enjoy your finished product. The results will be sweet! Click here for details and to register. 

PERSONAL SAFETY & SELF-DEFENSE:  This one-night personal safety and self-defense class is taught by a Boise Police Crime Prevention Unit representative.

POWERPOINT BASICS: Learn how to make an interesting and dynamic PowerPoint presentation by using templates and backgrounds, adding pictures, texts, charts, tables, video and audio and adding slide timings and transitions to add interest to your PowerPoint presentation! Click here for details and to register. 

REIKI/HEALING TOUCH - REST, RELAX, HEAL: Learn Reiki / Healing Touch, which is a powerful yet gentle form of healing that removes blocked energy, reduces stress, promotes relaxation and aids our self-curing.  This practice is perhaps the most ancient healing modality and most easily recognized as the laying on of hands. SURVIVING SUMMER FOR LESS:  "I'M BORED!!" Is this what you hear the week after school's out? Are you ready to tear your hair out waiting for school to start? WARNING SIGNS THAT AT-HOME HELP IS NEEDED:  Sometimes seniors won't admit they need help to stay at home. Knowing and watching for signs that could indicate extra assistance is needed may fall on family, friends, or advisors. This class will bring to your attention those signs that are easily overlooked. WILDLIFE TRAVEL: SEEING ANIMALS IN THE WILD:  If you love animals and are interested in traveling to see them in the wild instead of in the zoo, this class is for you! Topics will include: what wildlife travel is and is not, how to plan and budget for a trip, what to expect, pitfalls to watch for, how to pick a company to travel with or build an itinerary on your own, packing tips, amateur wildlife photography and available resources to research your destination. YOU'RE ON THE AIR:  A successful voice-over artist will demonstrate voice-over technique and will introduce students to the voice-over business as a whole. Class discussion will cover industry opportunities, income potential and the all-important demo and how to have it produced.
