Boise District Students Advance to National FCCLA Competition
Idaho Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) held their state competition, April 10-12. Boise School District students received the following recognition and qualified to represent Idaho at the National Competition in Austin, Texas in July.
Kacie Holloway and Taylor Nielsen from Riverglen Junior High were awarded Top Gold in their event, Chapter Service Display. They presented TATU, Teens Against Tobacco Use to elementary and junior high students in the Boise School District. TATU is a student-driven program that encourages individuals not to use tobacco in their lives.
Fanisee Bias and Andrea Fernandez were awarded a gold medal for their Illustrated Talk. They educated their peers at Riverglen Junior High School about using appropriate disability language.
Afton Berry attends Fresco School of the Arts and is a member of Riverglen's FCCLA chapter. Afton earned a Gold medal in the Interpersonal Communications event. She taught her peers to think before they speak. Afton presented to students at Riverglen and her entire student body at Fresco reaching over 300 students with her message.
Celina Turner from Borah High School was awarded a gold medal Occupational Illustrated Talk event. Celina presented a speech that focused on being a child of a teen mother. Her message was -"think about what is good for the child and give a child the greatest gift, a stable, nurturing home."
