Janet Cherry: Principal, West Junior High School
Janet Cherry has nearly twenty years of experience teaching and leading students in the Boise School District. She began her career at Capital High School in 1997 teaching psychology and English and serving as Capital's sophomore girls basketball coach, junior varsity softball coach and Assistant Athletic Director. In 2005, she became an assistant principal at Capital, helping coordinate implementation of the Idaho Standards Achievement Tests (ISAT), Advanced Placement (AP) exams and conducting teacher evaluations and teacher assignments.
Janet is a respected and knowledgeable educational leader who is dedicated to the District's Strategic Plan Vision of preparing students for college, career and citizenship. She is committed to setting high standards for each student, including providing opportunities for students to acquire critical thinking, writing and reading skills that prepare them for success in college, career and life.
Mrs. Cherry puts the needs of students first and believes in using data to help drive curriculum, as well as teaching. She is supportive of differentiated instruction to meet the learning needs of a diverse student population. Janet practices open communication, which builds strong and effective relationships between parents and educators. She is committed to teachers and parents working together to make sure students are receiving the most of their educational experience.
Janet has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Boise State University and a Master of Arts Degree in Educational Administration from the University of Idaho.
