Tuesday, October 8: Idaho's First Lady, Lori Otter will visit Jefferson Elementary School, 200 S. Latah St., to speak with kindergarten-3rd grade families about the importance of reading to children. She will then read to Jefferson students. The First Lady will start her presentation at 8:30 a.m. Contact Teacher Elizabeth Nelson at 854-5260 for more information.
Friday, October 11: A special school assembly will be held at 9:30 a.m. at South Junior High School, 3101 W. Cassia, St. to honor 8th Grade Science Teacher Chris Taylor, who has been selected for a deep sea science expedition from October 16 to 23 in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. The expedition is sponsored by JASON Learning, an education partnership between National Geographic Society and Sea Research Foundation, which is an internationally acclaimed, exploration-based program that links students-inside the classroom and out-to real science and scientists through technology intensive, inquiry-based curricular experiences. Saturday, October 12: District III Marching Band Competition, BSU's Bronco Stadium, beginning at 2 p.m. Twenty-eight bands from across the Treasure Valley will compete this year. Tickets for adults are $8 and for students grades K-12, $6. Gates open at 1 p.m. Schedule is as follows:

Friday, October 18: The 60th Annual Junior High School Music Clinic Concert will be held Friday evening, October 18th, at 7:00 PM, at the Borah High School Gymnasium. The eighth- and ninth-grade combined bands and choirs from each Junior High and the eighth- and ninth-grade combined orchestras from Hillside, Riverglen and Les Bois and Fairmont junior high schools will perform selections under the direction of three guest conductors, who will work with the students for two days prior to the concert.This year's guest conductors include orchestra clinician Dr. Ted Ashton, BYU-Idaho; band clinician Dr. Gregory Springer, BSU; and vocal clinician Heather Prinzing, Boise Schools. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend. Donations to help with costs of the event will be taken at the door.
Borah High School Boys' Choir Invited to Perform at Carnegie Hall: Borah High School men's choir, Tactus has been invited to sing at Carnegie Hall, in New York City on January 19, 2014. The 37-voiced group needs to earn funds in the neighborhood of $65,000 - 70,000 by December 1st. This is the Distringuished Concerts International and it's an honor equivalent to the World Series in Baseball for Tactus to be invited and attend.
