Farm to School Program
Boise School District participated in the Farm to School pilot program in 2010 and has successfully continued with this program. The goal of the program is to offer students a variety of local items each week, especially during the fall harvest season. The program has been so successful that, often times, several local items are provided in one day! Students are regularly offered local milk from Meadow Gold Dairy, Franz bread baked in Nampa, and fresh fruits and vegetables grown throughout the Treasure Valley.
The Harvest Day celebration, which began for Boise School District in 2011, helps integrate education about the Farm to School Program, healthy eating, and the importance of Idaho agriculture as part of school meals. With weekly cafeteria signs educating kids about what is locally sourced, Boise School District students are well versed about what is local each day in their meals.
