What's Happening in Boise School District 
     
Here's a look at some of the events happening in your Boise School District: 

 

Thursday, May 2:  PTO meeting, Garfield Elementary School, 1914 S. Broadway Ave., 3:30 p.m.

 

Thursday, May 2:  Art Show, Boise High School, 1010 W. Washington St., 5:30-8:30 p.m.  Highlighting the talents of Boise High's visual artists.  Everyone welcome!

 

Thursday, May 2:  Family Fun Night, Garfield Elementary School, 1914 S. Broadway Ave., 6-8 p.m.

 

Thursday, May 2:  Carnival, Hawthorne Elementary School, 2401 W. Targee St., 6-8:30 p.m. 

 

Thursday, May 2:  STEP (Student Transition Education Program) Variety Show, Silent Auction, and Spring Craft Sale, Timberline High School, 701 E. Boise Ave., 6:30-8:30 p.m.  $5 donation at the door.  Funds raised will provide opportunities for students with disabilities to attend non-academic classes at Boise State University, self-advocacy conferences, and other community activities. 

 

Friday, May 3:  Music Week School Night Concert, Taco Bell Arena, 7:30 p.m. 

 

Saturday, May 4:  12th Annual Hornet Run, 5K race begins and ends at East Jr. High School, 5600 E. Warm Springs Ave., 9:30 a.m.  $20 to participate, $10 for East students; cost includes t-shirt.  Funds raised purchase items for East Jr. High PE and athletics.

 

Saturday, May 18:  Rummage Sale, Hillside Jr. High School, 3536 W. Hill Rd., 9 a.m.-2 p.m.  Donations accepted between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday - Friday (to donate large items such a furniture, contact Dr. Michael Fischer [email protected].  Proceeds to benefit Hillside's bands and orchestras.

 

BSD Schools Take Top Honors in Jazz Competition:  Jazz bands from East Jr. High School and Borah High School took top honors in their divisions in the Gene Harris Jazz Festival in March.

  

BSD Students Win Awards:  A number of Boise School District high school students received awards in the Media Network Idaho 2013 High School Writing Contest.  First-place winners in their respective categories will be entered in the National Federation of Press Women's high school communications contest which will be held in August in Salt Lake City.

Borah Band Students Earn Superior Ratings:  Borah High School band members participated in the District III Solo and Ensemble Festival in March.  Several students received Superior ratings, qualifying them to participate in the State competition in May.  Those students are Spencer Esmond, Bari Sax; Sam Carlson, Keyboard Marimba; Ian Hooyboer, Multiple Percussion; Kevan Ash, Euphonium; alternate Erin Sandmeyer, Trumpet; alternate Christine Kickel, Flute.

 

BSD Students Earn First Place in History Day Competition:  Les Bois Jr. High student Mary Roedel and South Jr. High School student Nora Harren recently took first place in the Junior Group Division at the Idaho History Day Competition.  With their first-place win, Roedel and Harren qualified to move on the the National History Day Competition to be held in Baltimore, MD.  More information about these competitions can be found online at http://history.idaho.gov/national-history-day-idaho and http://www.nhd.org
