Lowell Elementary School Receives
Distinguished School Award

Boise, ID  --  10/29/2012 --  Boise School District's Lowell Elementary School has received one of only nine Distinguished School Awards in the State of Idaho. During a recently held student assembly, Milford Terrell, Idaho State Board of Education Member, presented Lowell Principal Paula Bell with the award for 2012.

"We are very appreciative to the State Board of Education for receiving this award," said Bell.  "Our staff members, parents, students and entire Lowell school community share in this award because it truly does take a commitment by everyone to see that our children have every opportunity to succeed."

The award is given by the State Board to schools in Idaho that meet the following criteria:
  • Must make Adequate Yearly Progress (as defined by the federal No Child Left Behind Act) for two consecutive years;
  • Based on grade level test:
    • Reduce gap between student groups or subgroups;
    • Subgroups must have at least 34 or greater student populations;
  • Top 5% of this group of schools that have reduced the gap(s) in their school

"We thank the Idaho State Board of Education for this important award," said Dr. Coberly.  "It recognizes the academic gains by Lowell students, honors the work of our dedicated staff, parents and school community, and serves as yet another reminder that Lowell and the Boise School District are committed to quality teaching and learning for each and every student."
