"Building a firm foundation through Christ-centered education."

Dear Parents,

It is hard to believe this school year is almost over. It may be even harder for you to believe that your child is almost a middle school student! For the parent and student alike, the transition into middle school can come with a little bit of nervousness and concern, all of which is entirely normal. If there is one simple but important reassurance I can provide it would be this: your child will be in amazing hands next year! The middle school team is made of up truly amazing teachers who are dedicated to ministering to the whole child spiritually, academically, emotionally, and socially. Each member of the middle school team is committed to ensuring every child is supported, loved, challenged, successful, and empowered to continually strive for excellence and learn more about who God is and who He has called them to be. Next year will be an amazing year for your child; God will make sure of it (Jeremiah 29:11)!

In preparation for next year, I met with the incoming 6th grade class last week. They are full of life and I could already see evidence of a sweet spirit in them. Joining me was an awesome group of current middle school students. Our time together was filled with laughter, information about what they can expect in middle school, questions, and much encouragement to build confidence so that all students know they are ready, they will be successful, and middle school will rock!

Part of our meeting discussed next year's enrichments and electives. All 6th graders will be automatically enrolled in a semester based enrichment wheel to include include Study Skills and Educational Technology first semester and Spanish and Art second semester. In addition to these courses, students are able to self-select one Friday elective per semester. The philosophy behind both enrichments and electives is to provide our students opportunities to explore the gifts, talents, and passions God has given them. Often, they may find a hidden gift they didn't know existed. The elective selection form was sent home with students last Tuesday and is attached for your reference as well. Please review the form and the elective offerings with your student. It is important to note Advanced Instrumental Ensemble: Band or Orchestra is included as one of the elective choices. If your child is interested in participating in band or orchestra, please note the explanation included on the form detailing how participation will impact the enrichment and elective courses. The elective form must be submitted no later than Friday, May 20th.

All 5th grade parents are invited to attend The Transition to Middle School: Everything Parents Need to Know about Middle School. This informational meeting for parents will be held Tuesday, May 24th at 6:30 in the multipurpose room (MPR). Come hear from the middle school team and take an opportunity to have your questions answered. We hope to see you there!

We expectantly and excitedly look forward to next year. Our highest aim is that your child's middle school experience will be rich and rewarding both spiritually and academically. We are dedicated to this and to partnering with you. Enjoy the remaining days of the 5th grade year and have a great summer!

In His Service,
