"Building a firm foundation through Christ-centered education."

Thank You Pastors

One of the special yearly events at MCS is our all-school Pastors Chapel. Church leaders from 19 local churches joined us for breakfast and a student led time of celebration, worship and prayer. Answering questions posed by Mr. Moore, our guests shared spiritual encouragement and leadership wisdom with our staff and students. It was a beautiful time of being "Unified" in our Lord Jesus Christ.

The day begins at 10:00 a.m. in the auditorium with a special elementary program. Following the program, the guests will meet the students in their classrooms for campus tours.

Please see details about the half day schedule in the letter below.

5th Grade Carpopol Ambassador Program
Application Due Date: May 26th

Ali Bray recently met with the 4th grade students to share about our Car Pool Ambassador Program and the leadership opportunity this provides in 5th grade. The Car Pool Ambassador Program was established a couple of years ago to come alongside of the new students and any of their apprehension they may feel with the morning car pool at MCS. The 5th grade ambassadors wear bright lime green vests and are available at the car pool drop off spots during morning car pool for the first month of school. They will be called upon by the car pool aides to walk any of the younger students to their lines who could use a little extra love.

APPLICATION PROCESS LOGISTICS:
  • The due date for the application to be turned in is on or before Thursday, May 26th.
  • The application contains a student portion, parent portion and portion for their current Homeroom teacher to sign. Students should plan accordingly.
  • Applications can be turned in at the front desk, in Ali Bray's mailbox, or at The Community Connections Office (my office) which is located across the hall from 3V.
2016-17 PROGRAM LOGISTICS:
  • Students are notified in late August whether or not they have been selected to participate
  • Students are typically assigned one day a week (their "shift day") to serve during MORNING CAR POOL for the first month of school; they should arrive at school at 7:30 on their shift days; except for Wednesdays when arrival would be adjusted to 8:45 due to late start schedule.

Celebrating MCS Artists - A Note from Mrs. Sanita

art-event.jpg
We have some amazing artists at MCS! We have had 7 art students selected to have their work displayed in the Orange County Department of Education's Imagination Celebration "1,000 Pieces of Art" exhibit at South Coast Plaza! The exhibit will be hung from May 5th through May 22nd in the Crate & Barrel wing of South Coast Plaza (Crystal Court).

The visual arts are an important part of the Imagination Celebration. This exciting exhibit showcases student artwork juried by the county's top art educators and professional artists! 1,600 Pieces of Art is an exceptional display of student artwork chosen from over 6,500 entries from private and public schools, grades pre-kindergarten through high school. These works of art from the most gifted young people in Orange County include drawings, paintings, pastels, prints, & mixed media.

Mariners Christian School Students selected:
  • Victoria Feng (1st grade)- Cezanne Still Life
  • Mackenzie Motichko (1st grade)- Circus Train
  • Joanne Kim (2nd grade)- Birds
  • Beth Akins (5th grade)- Black and White Still Life
  • Jack Wyluda (6th grade)- Protractor Design

Even further congratulations goes to Anna Eddys whose "Candy" painting was selected to not only hang in the "1,000 Pieces" art show, BUT, was selected to hang in the Laguna Beach Festival of the Arts Junior exhibit this summer! Her work will be displayed in both shows and then will be honored at a reception at the OCDE in the Fall.

I am very proud of our artists and all of the artists submitted to the contest!

Schoology Video Tutorials for Parents

We believe Schoology is a tremendous support for all parents and want you to know how to access and use all it has to offer. Below you will find six video tutorials to explain a different aspect of Schoology. We are confident this support will ensure all parents are becoming fully trained and Schoology experts:

Weekly Wednesday Worship Discipleship Group
Continues Wednesdays Weekly, 8:00-8:45AM

Held in the Learning Commons (formerly the library) every Wednesday morning from 8:00-8:45AM, just show up ready with a heart for worship (no need to sign up in advance).

During this time, students will learn what it truly means to be a worshipper of God with a lens for applying that knowledge toward leading worship. It will include reading and discussions on systematic theology, servant leadership, and biblical understanding of who God is and why He's worthy of worship.

Students participating in this discipleship group do not need to be on the worship team but all who want to learn more about worshipping our God are invited to attend. All middle school students, 6th through 8th grade are invited to participate! If you have any questions, please contact Mr. McCall at
[email protected]

The Student Success Center

Did you know the middle school has a Student Success Center? The goal of SSC is to support students in achieving academic goals by providing homework help and strengthening skills in organization, time management, and test preparation. We want to teach students strategies that will help them achieve success in both their academic careers and for the rest of their lives beyond MCS. Students who want to take advantage of this tremendous resource can stop by the SSC located upstairs next to the administration office to meet Mrs. Willis, receive more information, and sign up for the after school help. The SSC is open to students during the following times:
  • Tuesday- 6th grade only: 3:00-3:30
  • Wednesday-8th grade only: 3:00-3:30
  • Thursday-7th grade only: 3:00-3:30
  • Friday- Any grade: 3:00-3:30
To provide the best support, it is imperative students sign up prior to attending. We are excited to provide this great resource to our students and are thrilled to work with students throughout the year!
