Today's Elementary Chapels focused on SERVICE and students were introduced to the Go Big For Gulu Service Project. The program was originally launched as a Middle School service project but today Elementary Students joined the cause making it an All-School UNIFIED Giving to Gulu Service Project.

Both Elementary and Middle School students are excited to partner with Christ the Center Ministries School in Gulu throughout this year as we build relationship, pray, and raise funds to support two exciting initiatives: the Feeding Program and the Building Expansion of their School!  Enclosed is a Go Big For Gulu Overview explaining the school initiatives. Middle School has already met (exceeded) their first goal of raising $1,500 (please scroll to the middle school section for details).

Sudents watched a video during chapel today and Middle School ASB explained the program and gave students examples of how they can partner. "Change for Gulu" jars were given to Elementary class representatives - each jar included a list of student names from "Christ the Center" school so that they can pray over them in class.

Family Participation:

Ask your student to share one of the prayer requests from the students in Gulu and draft a written prayer together to keep on the refrigerator to remind your family to pray for him/her daily.

Going Big For Gulu - All School Service Project
Students watched this video from Christ the Center Ministries School in Gulu.

We invite you to watch the video above to understand the needs of the Christ the Center Ministries School. Most importantly, we ask that you would join us in prayer as we ask God to use us for His kingdom as we respond to His call to be a UNIFIED Christian community within our school and across the world!

Students who SERVED as Car Pool Ambassadors this year were also recognized during chapel as well. There are many ways to serve in the Body of Christ.

First Book Club Launch for MCS Moms
Hosted by Ali Bray

You are invited to a 5 week book club (November 4th - December 9th). It will take place on Wednesdays from 9:30 am - 11 am. Come enjoy a time of coffee, conversation and community centered around the topics explored in Jen Hatmaker's new book, "For the Love". Spread the word ... it is going to be a great connection event.

A brief description of the book:
Best-selling author Jen Hatmaker is convinced life can be lovely and fun and courageous and kind. She reveals with humor and style how Jesus' embarrassing grace is the key to dealing with life's biggest challenge: people. The majority of our joys, struggles, thrills, and heartbreaks relate to people, beginning with ourselves and then the people we came from, married, birthed, live by, go to church with, don't like, don't understand, fear, compare ourselves to, and judge. Jen knows how the squeeze of this life can make us competitive and judgmental, how we can lose love for others and then for ourselves.

She reveals how to:

* Break free of guilt and shame by dismantling the unattainable Pinterest life.
* Learn to engage our culture's controversial issues with a grace-first approach.
* Be liberated to love and release the burden of always being right.
* Identify the tools you already have to develop real-life, all-in, know-my-junk-but-love-me-anyway friendships.
* Escape our impossible standards for parenting and marriage by accepting the standard of "mostly good."
* Laugh heartily.

In this raucous ride to freedom for modern women, Jen Hatmaker bares the refreshing wisdom, wry humor, no-nonsense faith, liberating insight, and fearless honesty that have made her beloved by women worldwide.

From MCS Admissions

On Tuesday, MCS hosted the first on campus "Preschool Directors Preview."  Mariners Church Preschool, Good Shepard Preschool, and St. Margaret's Episcopal Preschool were represented. Each Director brought a wealth of knowledge to our forum. Mr. Moore and Mrs. Biancalani led our group in a presentation filled with fellowship and communication. We received great feedback from our partner preschools and we are already in the planning stages for our next, "Preschool Partnership Lunch" coming in early 2016!

As I reflected on the event, I was reminded of Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 "Two are better than one. If one falls, his companion can lift him up. An enemy might prevail against one alone, but instead there are two to withstand him. A threefold cord is not easily broken. There is strength in working together."

As a community of Christian educators it is our duty to lift each other up, and Mariners Christian School is taking steps each day to find partnership with Christian schools and preschools in our community.

We also want to thank you, our current parents, for your partnership with MCS Admissions and ask you to continue to tell your friends who are interested in Christian education about our school.

Enclosed is a flyer with information about our upcoming Preview Night for prospective families which will be held on November 5th. Feel free to pass this information along.

With Appreciation,

Germaine Kaufman
Admissions Director

Gulu Goals

Middle school has already reached the first Gulu goal of $1500.00! The original goal completion date was set for December 15th but because we have surpassed that goal in just three weeks, we are moving on to achieve the second goal of $10,000.

The first $1500 will be donated to Gulu to pay for the feeding program through the months of December and January. The second goal will provide for the building of an entire classroom including all necessary classroom furniture and supplies.

God is moving! God is providing through His people! We are honored to be called to partner with our brothers and sisters in Gulu, Uganda and we are proud of how our middle school students are answering that call!

We are excited to see our elementary students jumping in to partner. They have seen our middle school students model faith in action and are ready to get in the game as well!

Pray for our Middle School Trips & Activities

8th graders are off to DC and New York for the annual and much anticipated 8th grade trip! Next week our 6th graders will head to Pine Valley for science camp and our 7th graders will have Unite and Serve Week where they will participate in community, global, and MCS service projects.

We ask that our parents surround each of these trips, our students, staff members, and parent chaperones with prayer. Specifically, please pray for safety, health, God to be honored in our words and actions, great relationship building and bonding within the students, and for all of our students to encounter Jesus in real ways!

Thank you for your much needed prayers!

Multiple private and public high schools and two college guidance counselors will participate in our High School Fair. This will be a great opportunity for you to learn more about our surrounding high schools as you explore your options for the next important step in your child's education.

Schools will set up displays in the auditorium to provide an opportunity for you to speak with individual school representatives and gather information.

We hope to see you there.

Weekly Wednesday Worship Discipleship Group
Continues Wednesdays Weekly, 8:00-8:45AM

Held in the Learning Commons (formerly the library) every Wednesday morning from 8:00-8:45AM, just show up ready with a heart for worship (no need to sign up in advance).

During this time, students will learn what it truly means to be a worshipper of God with a lens for applying that knowledge toward leading worship. It will include reading and discussions on systematic theology, servant leadership, and biblical understanding of who God is and why He's worthy of worship.

Students participating in this discipleship group do not need to be on the worship team but all who want to learn more about worshipping our God are invited to attend. All middle school students, 6th through 8th grade are invited to participate! If you have any questions, please contact Mr. McCall at
[email protected]

The Student Success Center

Did you know the middle school has a Student Success Center? The goal of SSC is to support students in achieving academic goals by providing homework help and strengthening skills in organization, time management, and test preparation. We want to teach students strategies that will help them achieve success in both their academic careers and for the rest of their lives beyond MCS. Students who want to take advantage of this tremendous resource can stop by the SSC located upstairs next to the administration office to meet Mrs. Willis, receive more information, and sign up for the after school help. The SSC is open to students during the following times:
  • Tuesday- 6th grade only: 3:00-3:30
  • Wednesday-8th grade only: 3:00-3:30
  • Thursday-7th grade only: 3:00-3:30
  • Friday- Any grade: 3:00-3:30
To provide the best support, it is imperative students sign up prior to attending. We are excited to provide this great resource to our students and are thrilled to work with students throughout the year!
