Raisbeck Ram Air Recovery System

Available for all 200/B200 King Airs.  It significantly improved climb and cruise performance with ice vanes stowed or deployed.  20º cooler engine ITT at equal torque.  8% increase in available horsepower.  8% to 11% block fuel savings.  Ice vanes may be deployed at any time including taxi and takeoff when at OATs up to ISA +27ºC. FAA-certified to protect your engines from ice and foreign object damage.  Developed and tested in conjunction with Pratt & Whitney. Reduce torque loss with ice vanes deployed.

The Raisbeck-patented Ram Air Recovery System maximizes the air to the engine inlet so that your engine retains the same power with ice vanes deployed that you get now with the ice vanes stowed. Your aircraft retains speed and power as you climb through clouds or inclement weather. With ice vanes stowed, you experience increased power and speed, and you save fuel-all at lower engine temperatures.

Balancing Career and Life

There has never been a time where work/life balance has been more challenging in aviation.  Whether in the cockpit, cabin, on the ramp, or in the shop, the pull on our mental and physical resources from every direction can make us feel hopeless. Between work schedules, social events, kids school and sports activities; keeping up the home, yard, in-laws, siblings, church.... the list of legitimate things in line for your time seems endless.

too busy sign

All good things! You are fortunate to have kids that need your time; a significant other to spend time with; an aviation job to support you and your family; a home and car to take care of.  These and  other things that we think complicate our life - are all good things. We just need to balance it all in the limited time we have.

Start with a simple premise. Your time is finite but what you can do is limitless. Try budgeting time for your spiritual life first, next for spouse, family and yourself, then work; finally prioritize all that remains. Once you've set your priorities, stick to them.  If you do the things you have to do first and those you need to do next, leaving things you'd might like to get done for last, you'll find less pressure daily.  Always remember, some things might not make the cut at all.

Three Stooges on Saturday morning or getting the oil changed?  Always tend the priorities first!  Like doing the maintenance on vehicles rather than wishing you had.  Actions have consequences.  The TV will still be there when the chores are done.

balancing act highwireThis doesn't mean you shouldn't budget yourself some personal time. On the contrary, you are near the top of the list. Remember- "spouse, family, and yourself". Whether it's dinner out with someone special, a round of golf, bowling with your buddies, cycling through the countryside, or just reading the paper on the patio, you need time to unwind or you'll be of little value to anyone.

Take a few minutes and write down your priorities. Get them in order. Make a plan to sidestep those things that don't fit into your priority plan. Follow your plan and stick to it. Your family will love you for it, your boss will appreciate it, and most importantly, some sanity may start creeping into your everyday life at the airport.

 Jim Donath

Jim Donath

Meet Jim Donath, President of Donath Aircraft Services.  He's running a Chicago-based aircraft brokerage firm which focuses primarily in the mid-to-large cabin markets.

A graduate of Ohio's Miami University, with a Degree in Business, Jim spent several years in sales, marketing and advertising before joining his father, Bob Donath, in the family business.  A pilot himself, Jim knows the aircraft from the flight controls to the spreadsheet.  Jim is determined to pursue the strategic path forged by his dad over 30 years ago, and to maintain the high values set by him.  Jim wants Donath Aircraft to remain a company that succeeds, so they accept only a few client projects at any one time.  This allows Donath to provide the personal attention every transaction needs and the level of service his clients deserve.  For Donath this leads to the quality they are known for.  Jim has found this strategy is one that delivers the best results for each transaction, and keeps his clients coming back when it's time to buy or sell their next aircraft.  Recent projects include Falcons, Gulfstream GIVs and G450s, and a Challenger 300.   Donath has successfully marketed from B 737's down to King Air's. His clientele ranges from entrepreneurs, through private equity firms, to Fortune 100 companies.

Jim is married, with two sons, and lives close to Wrigley with his office also on Chicago's north side. Jim is very involved in the business aviation community, having previously served on the Board and as President of CABAA (Chicago Area Business Aviation Association), and is the current Chair of CABAA's Education Foundation.

Jim's definitely a Person of Interest.  Get to know him.
