KEYSTONE TRAILS ASSOCIATION'S CLUB CONNECTION
Working together to preserve Pennsylvania's footpaths since 1956
July, 2012
Greetings!

The KTA Club Connection helps your club stay informed about club-specific KTA activities and events.  Please share this newsletter with your club officers and members; if you'd like, you can forward this email (using the "forward" link at the very bottom of the newsletter) to your entire club mailing list.

KTA's member clubs are the backbone of Keystone Trails Association.  Keystone Trails Association was created by - and for - hiking clubs like yours throughout the state of Pennsylvania.  Together, we are Keystone Trails Association.

QUICK CLICKS

REMINDER:

SHARE YOUR NEWS

Has your club conducted an unusual hike, outstanding program, or celebrated a milestone event?

Please let us know your club's news as soon as possible so that we can share your news in our newsletter and/or our Facebook page.

SEEKING GPS COORDINATES

Does your hiking club or individual members have have GPS coordinates of springs and watering sites on, along, or near the state forest hiking trails?  The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) monitoring team is collecting baseline data for as many springs and watering sites as possible in the Marcellus Region.  DCNR needs our help!  If your club already has locations and data for these sites, please pass them on to Keystone Trails Association by August 1, 2012, and we will forward them to DCNR.  Any data that you could provide would be greatly appreciated, and will really help DCNR's efforts to get baseline data in the field. Thanks for your help!

SHE TOOK THE CHALLENGE.  WILL YOU?

Nicole Sarver has been walking through the woods for most of her life, but started to long-distance hike and backpack in 2008.  She feels that the 100-Mile Trail Challenge is a great way to support a good cause, while doing what she loves to do!  For her Challenge, Nicole has hiked parts of the Quehanna Trail, Lost Turkey Path, and Old Sinnemahoning Trail, and backpacked the John P. Saylor Trail.  Although Nicole has already completed her 100 miles for 2012, she plans to rack up many more miles before the summer is over, including 56 additional miles on the Chuck Keiper Trail.   Nicole's advice to new hikers is to "learn to work with what the trail gives you, be adaptive, and you'll finish the trail!"   If you would like to take the Challenge, click here.

SUPER VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Are you free on Saturday, September 8? If so, please consider volunteering for KTA's fourth annual Susquehanna Super Hike and Ultra Trail Run!  Over 100 volunteers are needed to make this event a success.  We have opportunities for individuals, couples, families and groups -- just let us know what you would like to do, and how much time you can offer!  Event volunteers receive a Super Hike t-shirt and free admission to the after-picnic.  To volunteer, please click here

THE KEYSTONE HIKER

The Keystone Hiker, KTA's member newsletter, is sent to the KTA Representative and President of every club on or around the first of ever month, as well as to all of KTA's individual members.  This digital, monthly newsletter has information relevant to all of KTA's individual and club members, not included in The Club Connection.  Please forward that to your members, if you are able, as well! Thanks!

YOU ARE KTA.

Thank you for being an integral part of Keystone Trails Association! Together, we will preserve, protect, and promote Pennsylvania's outstanding hiking trails for generations to come.  Please stay tuned for more e-updates from KTA, so you can learn more about issues affecting Pennsylvania's trails, actions your club can take, hiking-related news and information, and upcoming events occurring throughout the state.
