The 2013 GBAR Agent's Day and Trade Show will be held at the Binghamton Riverwalk on Wednesday, May 8, 2013. The Trade Show Committee, chaired by Dawn Roessing, is hard at work to create the best Trade Show yet! Our theme this year will be "It's a Jungle Out There", given our improving but still unsettled market conditions.

Condolences - Charlene Day
It is with great sadness that I report the passing of Charlene Day, GBAR Past-President Steve Day's wife, on April 30, 2013.
As many of you know, Charlene has been battling cancer for a long time, with Steve at her side throughout, but ultimately suffered heart failure after her long battle.
Please join us in offering Steve and his family our sincere condolences during this difficult time. |
| This Just In: DOS Opinion on Corporate Titles For Agents/Brokers
The New York Department of State has just issued an opinion addressing the practice of brokerages providing licensees with corporate titles as a marketing practice. The opinion states that such a practice is contrary to Article 12-A if the brokerage did not formally appoint the licensee as an officer. The use of such corporate officer titles is deemed to be dishonest and misleading (both actionable offenses against the brokerage). Any brokerage that provides corporate titles to licensees may be subject to discipline by the Department of State.

| NAR Code of Ethics Centennial Celebration
2013 marks the 100th Anniversary of the REALTOR Code of Ethics, the document which guides the ethical duty of all REALTORS toward their clients and customers, the public and their fellow REALTORS.
At GBAR, we'll be commemorating the Centennial in a number of ways, including a full page ad in the Press & Sun-Bulletin Home Marketplace Section on May 4 ( click here for a sneak preview), the purchase of commemorative posters for all our Broker Members, as well as periodic historical tid-bits in the REALTOR Review.

Martha's MLS Tips:
Pending Sales Courtesies
and Posting Dates
Even if a contract has been signed, you may feel it is too early in a transaction to change the MLS status of a listing to PENDING. However, please be considerate of fellow agents and put a note in private remarks that a contract is in place. This way a buyer agent can let their clients know the actual status of the home.
And importantly, when you do finally mark a listing as PENDING, please enter the date the contract was signed, not the date when you marked it as PENDING. Entering a date other than the contract date will invalidate our Days On Market statistic, which in an important indicator of market health.

2nd Half 2013 GBAR Dues and Fees Billing Notice to be Emailed at the End of May, 2013
A reminder that your Association Dues and Fees Notice for the second half of 2013 will be e-mailed to you at the end of May, 2013. As in previous years, it will include instructions on how to access and pay your invoice on-line through our ECommerce system.
(NOTE: MLS Only Members will be e-mailed an invoice directly, as the online feature is not available to MLS Only Members.)
This dues and fees invoice must be paid by June 28, 2013 either on-line or to your Principal Broker in order for you to remain an active Member of our Association and MLS.
Please note that this is a preliminary notice - payments cannot be accepted until the Official Notice Regarding Association Dues and/or MLS Fees email is sent and received by you.
IMPORTANT!! Since our billing system is email-based, it is important that your email of record be accurate and current. To ensure your email of record is correct, please log onto our MLS at www.binghamtonmls.com, click on "Agent Roster" in the right hand column and scroll down to your name and email address. If you need to update/correct /change your email address, please send an email immediately to realtor@gbingar.com with the new email address.
Finally, now is the time to take care of any outstanding invoices that you have or your dues and fees payment cannot be accepted.

On Friday, April 26, GBAR Community Service Committee Members Sandi Stebelton (Chair), Rose Pelino, Diana Nogaret and Melanie Price traveled to the Vestal Texas Roadhouse to present Sam Valoff, Managing Partner, with a commemorative plaque recognizing Texas Roadhouse' significant contribution to our March 20 Fundraiser on behalf of the family of fallen Owego Firefighter, Matt Porcari. The event, which raised over $9,700, was overwhelmingly supported by GBAR sponsors, guests and the public-at-large.
