The Unbanked Bank:
Sanctions Controls in a Digital Age
UnbankedPaperCorrespondent banking has never been as disrupted as it is today. The disruption is not caused by technology, but by politics. The political maneuvering of governments to squeeze economies financially, in order to get their compliance politically, is a critical instrument in the organization of global peace. That is why the banking system, and specifically sanctions, create control. On the other hand, such activity also causes uncertainty, blockages and challenges to trade. What is the best way to control the financial network and should countries, and/or banks, really be thrown off the network or is there a better way? Chris Skinner takes a look in the latest FImetrix white paper.

Renminbi Special Report:
Western Europe and North America
RMB_ReportComplimentary Special Report
As part of our Bank-to-Bank Services to Western Europe and North America study, FImetrix recently compiled a special report detailing the findings regarding the execution of Renminbi (RMB) payments in the region.  You may view and download a complimentary copy of the report by clicking here.
Key Findings
The utilization of the RMB as a trade settlement currency is continuing to grow in the region, with six in ten banks reporting that they are currently executing RMB payments to China, up from just under half (49%) two years ago.  Furthermore, the vast majority of those who currently process RMB payments expect their RMB volumes to increase in the next year.

Unsurprisingly, the number one challenge in supporting RMB payments, cited by three in ten banks (31%), is regulatory issues.  Specifically, a number of respondents say that the rules and regulations for processing the transaction change regularly, making it difficult for them to create standard operational procedures.
Sibos Convention Follow-up Study
At the conclusion of each Sibos conference, FImetrix conducts a brief web-based study measuring the effectiveness of a bank's marketing campaign at the event, as well as current topics in the industry.  This web-based study has just launched, and results will be available in November.

If you are interested in your bank's evaluation at the conference, please contact David Burnett (dburnett@fimetrix.com) or Doug Ziurys (dziurys@fimetrix.com) for report details.

As 2014 comes to an end, FImetrix is wrapping up its fieldwork for its Bank-to-Bank Services Study in Latin America.  The report is expected to be available at year end.

In the upcoming year, FImetrix will interview senior executives at over 300 banks throughout the Middle East and Maghreb, Sub-Saharan Africa, Western Europe, and Central and Eastern Europe about their provider network for cash and trade services.

FImetrix will also be conducting a global review on the competitive position of Canadian Dollar providers, as well as the corporate trade landscape in Canada.
