We are very excited to announce the creation of our "Distinguished Provider" designation, which is given to leading transaction services providers who exceed the global standard in service delivery.  You can read more about this new category, including a list of the 2013 designees, below.

In continuing with our examination on thought leadership, we have released the second white paper in the series.  In "Thought Leaders - More than Innovation", Chris Skinner discusses the brand attributes which can be applied to banks being seen as thought leaders.

Good decisions begin with timely, accurate, and meaningful information.  With this in mind, we strive to provide the industry with findings and information that are important and useful.   In this newsletter, we would like to share with you updates on RMB data from our various regional studies, and our Market Issues 2013 report, which looks at the training offered by correspondent banks and the confidence level of banks as they enter the new year.

We would also like to extend to you an invitation to a coffee break, which we will be sponsoring at the upcoming BAFT-IFSA conference in Naples, FL.

TL CrosswordInnovationBrand Attributes of a Thought Leader -
More than Innovation

FImetrix recently surveyed banks globally to find out what they saw as the key attributes of a thought leader. Historically, many banks thought it just meant being an innovator, but there is far more to thought leadership than just innovation.

In this second of a series of articles commissioned by FImetrix, Chris Skinner, Chief Executive of the financial think tank Balatro, discusses what key brand attributes can be applied to banks that are seen as being thought leaders.

MarketIssuesMarket Issues 2013 Examines Training by Correspondents
At the start of each year, FImetrix conducts a short study to measure the confidence level of banks  with the current business environment and with their transaction services providers for the coming year.  The survey also examines trends in the industry.  For this fifth annual study, training offered by correspondents was a new addition.  Training Lesson

Half of the bank executives interviewed say that the training they receive from their correspondent bank impacts how they allocate business, at least to some extent.  Most cite regulatory topics or subjects as areas where they would most like to receive additional training.

This study also found that the confidence level entering this year is more positive after declining markedly at the start of 2012.  This was especially pronounced in the Central/Eastern Europe region.

RMBExecuting RMB Payments to China - Regional Updates

RMB SymbolLast year we released a report on the RMB based on findings from all regions in our Bank-to-Bank Services series.  As we continue our Bank-to-Bank Services series, we are compiling regional updates on the RMB findings at the conclusion of each study.  We most recently completed our Latin America study, and we have the updated report available.

These reports provide a high-level review of selected results related to the execution and marketing of RMB payments to China. The market for transaction services is highly competitive and with the consolidation in the provider network for USD, EUR, and GBP services continuing, the impact of transactions being denominated in RMB has ramifications for all global providers. If you are interested in receiving a copy of these reports, please contact David Burnett (dburnett@fimetrix.com) or Doug Ziurys (dziurys@fimetrix.com).
Research in 2013
In the coming year, FImetrix will interview senior executives at over 300 banks throughout the Middle East and Maghreb, Sub-Saharan Africa, Western Europe, and Central and Eastern Europe about their provider network for cash and trade services.  Field work has commenced in the Middle East and Maghreb, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Western Europe.  Results are expected to be available in June 2013 for the Middle East and Maghreb, and August 2013 for Sub-Saharan Africa and Western Europe.

FImetrix is gearing up to enter the field in Western Europe and North America for its study on US Dollar services this month, and anticipates being in the field in Central and Eastern Europe this fall. FImetrix is also presently conducting a global review on the competitive position of
Canadian Dollar providers.

In preparation for Sibos 2013 in Dubai, FImetrix is currently conducting a pre-Sibos study that examines participant expectations for the conference. A report of the findings is expected to be available at the beginning of May 2013.
