Arbor Research Collaborative for Health, in partnership with the NephCure Foundation, has been approved for a funding award by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) to develop and expand a health data network that will be part of PCORnet: the National Patient-Centered Clinical Research Network.

This new network will enable important clinical and patient-reported data on nephrotic syndrome to be contributed, under patient control, to a centralized repository. The rich clinical and patient-reported outcomes database, with patients as active participants, will facilitate rapid development and execution of comparative effectiveness research to benefit patients with nephrotic syndrome.  To learn more, please click here.

A report prepared by Arbor Research Collaborative for Health, in collaboration with the University of Michigan School of Public Health, was released by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) as part of CMS's National Proposed Rule Making for the Medicare Prospective Payment System (PPS) for Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC). Arbor Research prepared the report under our contract with CMS. The report describes analyses that informed CMS in their development of the proposed design of the FQHC PPS. This report also describes relative advantages and disadvantages of several policy options that CMS considered for the proposed FQHC PPS.

To view the report on the CMS website, please click here, and then select "PPS Structure Design Document" from the Downloads section.

DOPPS Program Update

The Dialysis Outcomes and Practice Patterns Study (DOPPS) Program continues to expand into new countries and study areas. We are pleased to provide you with the following updates on our research. For more information and future updates, please visit DOPPS.org.

DOPPS

The DOPPS collects and analyzes data on in-center hemodialysis practices in 21 countries. This study has been ongoing since 1996 and has resulted in nearly 200 publications.

Russia and Turkey are the most recent countries added to the DOPPS. Data collection began in both countries in September 2013. Centers participating in the DOPPS in Russia represent 90% of dialysis patients there; the dialysis centers participating in the DOPPS in Turkey represent more than 95% of that country's hemodialysis population.

PDOPPS

Built on the model of the DOPPS, the Peritoneal Dialysis Outcomes and Practice Patterns Study (PDOPPS) is designed to reveal optimal practices for peritoneal dialysis patients worldwide. The PDOPPS pilot study launched in Canada in October 2013. Pilot studies are also slated to begin soon in Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Funding for the PDOPPS in Australia has been secured and a mid-2014 launch is planned.

CKDopps

The Chronic Kidney Disease Outcomes and Practice Patterns Study (CKDopps) is also built on the model of the original DOPPS. This facility-based cohort study of practices treating chronic kidney disease is based on observing longitudinal prospective and retrospective data. After the successful conclusion of pilot studies in France and Brazil, as well as the analysis of retrospective data from Germany, CKDopps has now launched in all three countries. CKDopps data collection is planned to begin in the United States in early 2014.
