Arbor Research awarded NIH grant to study lower urinary tract dysfunction

Arbor Research was awarded a grant to study symptoms of lower urinary tract dysfunction (LUTD) under a consortium arrangement named the Lower Urinary Tract Dysfunction Research Network (LURN). This cooperative study will be conducted in conjunction with scientists from the National Institutes of Health and clinical collaborators across the country. It adds a new data coordinating center (DCC) to the Arbor Research portfolio that already supports the A2ALL and RELIVE studies. Click here to learn more...

Brazil    CKDopps in Brazil

Dr. Bruce Robinson, vice president of research at Arbor Research and principal investigator of the Dialysis Outcomes and Practice Patterns Study (DOPPS), traveled to Sao Paulo to present a symposium at the Brazilian Congress of Nephrology on September 7, 2012. He was joined by members of the Chronic Kidney Disease Outcomes and Practice Patterns Study (CKDopps) Brazil Steering Committee for this session, which provided an overview of the DOPPS and CKDopps, findings on hemodialysis practices associated with best patient outcomes, a presentation on chronic kidney disease care in Brazil, and an introduction to CKDopps in the country. Dr. Marc Turenne, a research scientist with Arbor Research, gave a talk titled, "Framing the Issue: Hospital Readmissions in End-Stage Renal Disease," at the ESRD Network Forum Quality Conference on September 11, 2012. The theme of this two-day conference was "Creating a Culture of Quality: Pursuing Excellence in Care Transitions, Enhancing Safety in Kidney Patient Care." Dr. Turenne motivated and informed subsequent discussions at the conference, which was focused on the potential for improving care transitions among dialysis patients, especially transitions occurring between hospitals and dialysis facilities. Dr. Turenne provided background regarding recent attention on hospital readmission as a policy issue, with implications for both quality and cost of care. He also described some of the work conducted by Arbor Research as part of the Quality Measures project for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services on the frequency and causes of readmissions among dialysis patients and the potential influence of both dialysis providers and hospitals in preventing readmissions in end-stage renal disease.
