Mangosteens Make Tasty Chutney
By Grace O
When mangosteens are in season, from May to September, I can't wait to get my hands on some. I know that these exotic treats, sometimes called purple mangosteen, will soon be gone. These beautiful little fruits are about the size of a baseball. Dark purple in color, they have a tough outer shell. The top is crowned with small green leaves and the bottom is stamped with a flowerlike shape. They almost look manufactured, but this is how God makes them. You have to carefully cut a line around the tough outer pericarp--the fruit wall--with a sharp knife. The pericarp is about a quarter of an inch thick. Read More

Natural Steps To Liver Health
By Dr. Mark Rosenberg

When I suspected liver malfunction in one of my patients recently, he protested. He assumed that his liver was fine since he didn't drink large amounts of alcohol.

Honey Lemon-Grass Tea
By Grace O
Lemon-grass, a plant native to India, looks like stiff grass stalks but smells a bit like lemon. In this recipe, you use the tough green parts of the herb along with the more edible white portion of the stalks, since you only steeping the plant. Like lemon-grass, honey--especially natural or raw honey--is an antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal food. Fructose gives it fewer calories than cane or beet sugar, and the body tolerates it better, too. Honey also contains antioxidants and is a natural cough remedy. Lemon-grass (a.k.a. lemon grass) can be found at Melissas.com and at Indian markets and Asian markets.
