Novel Breast Screening Technology Increases Diagnostic Accuracy. Tomosynthesis: three-dimensional breast imaging. "This is the first major advance in breast imaging and breast cancer screening since the development of breast MRI,"

Thermography Clinic Inc. Responds to CBC Unbalanced Report on Thermography. Thermography provides women and their health care practitioners with additional information. It is not intended to replace mammography.

Health Canada issues advisory about thermography tests. Health Canada is not aware of any clinical evidence that thermography can be used effectively as a screening technique for the early detection of breast cancer.

A Breath Test For Detecting Cancer? According to the researchers, cancer tissues operate differently compared to non-cancerous cells and may release a distinct chemical signature.

GENERAL MAMMOGRAPHY

Study Suggests Breast Cancer Overdiagnosed. As many 1.3 million women over age 40 were overdiagnosed with breast cancer over three decades.

3D Imaging Raises Accuracy of Digital Mammo. Adding tomosynthesis to digital mammography boosts diagnostic accuracy and reduces false-positive recall rates.

Breast Disease Society Supports Informed Patient Decision Making on Breast Cancer Screening. New guidelines will help women and their doctors better understand the issues around breast density and how they can make better informed decisions about breast cancer screening.

Soy is Safe for Breast Cancer Survivors. Breast cancer patients and survivors need no longer worry about eating moderate amounts of soy foods.

Study: 1.3 Million Overdiagnosed Breast Cancers in 30 Years. Breast cancer was overdiagnosed in an estimated 70,000-plus women.

Breast Cancer Cells' Reaction to Cancer Drugs Can Be Predicted. researchers have developed a way of predicting responses of breast cancer cells to a set of cancer drugs.

Health Reform Could Provide More Than a Million Women in the U.S. With Access to Potentially Life Saving Tests for Breast and Cervical Cancer. The Affordable Care Act would expand health insurance coverage for more low-income women.

Mammograms Down After USPSTF Recommendations. Our take home message for women, doctors and legislators: "Women should have a mammogram once a year starting at age 40,".

New Genetic Test Detects Early Breast Cancer and Identifies Future Risk. Researchers have been working to develop a new test of gene action to predict cancer risk both at first diagnosis and into the future.

Most Women Who Have Double Mastectomy Don't Need It. About 70 percent of women who have both breasts removed following a breast cancer diagnosis do so despite a very low risk of facing cancer in the healthy breast.

Women With Dense Breasts Welcome Additional Screening. A survey of women undergoing routine screening mammography found that many of them would be interested in pursuing additional screening tests if notified they had dense breast tissue.

Best to Add Chemo After Breast Cancer Surgery. Long-term results suggest that after resection of locally recurrent breast cancer, patients should also undergo adjuvant chemotherapy.

Existing Breast Cancer Drugs May Help More Women. Current screening tests may miss as many as 1 in 50 women with breast cancer who would benefit from treatment with highly effective breast cancer drugs.

Longer tamoxifen use cuts breast cancer deaths. For women with early estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer, a decade of tamoxifen is better than stopping after 5 years.

'Chemo Brain' May Actually Be Worry and Fatigue, Says Study. Reduced brain function caused by fatigue and worry is often present even before chemotherapy begins.

Obesity and Overeating During Menopause Together Promote Breast Tumor Growth and Progression. Obese postmenopausal women have increased risk for breast cancer and poorer clinical outcomes compared with postmenopausal women who are lean.

New Studies Show Effects of Mammography Guideline Changes. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) found evidence that the new recommendations may lead to missed cancers and a decline in screening, according to two clinical studies presented at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA).

Breast Cancer 'Different' in Younger Women. Women 35 years of age or younger have a biologically different form of breast cancer than women who develop the disease at an older age.

Statins May Slow Inflammatory Breast Cancer. Inflammatory breast cancer grew significantly more slowly in women who had a history of treatment with statin drugs.

Dense Breast Awareness Ups Desire for More Screening. Three-quarters of women polled (76%) were unaware of their breast density, but some 95% said they'd be interested in additional screening with whole-breast ultrasound if they knew they had dense breasts.

First Breast Cancer, Then Diabetes? The risk began to rise 2 years after a breast cancer diagnosis.

BREAST MRI
