TIAC would like to send our thoughts and best wishes to our friends in Fort McMurray and all those affected by the recent wildfires. The Government of Canada is still matching all donations made through the Red Cross to help the people of Fort McMurray cope during this difficult time.

Glacier Skywalk Wins a Governor General's Medal in Architecture
Congratulations to Brewster Travel Canada for this achievement!
Brewster's Glacier Skywalk and its lead design architect Jeremy Sturgess, FRAIC, has been named recipient of a Governor General's Medal for Architecture

The amazing structure of walkways and glass bottomed platforms provides visitors with the unique experience of standing above a 980 ft drop in the Rocky Mountains, and has been described as a "perfect balance of breathtaking views, interpretive story-telling and adrenaline-pumping excitement".

Tourism By the Numbers
March 2016
We are seeing some fantastic numbers from Canada's mature markets for March 2016. Growth in these markets is good news for Canadian tourism, especially before we hit the peak summer season.

After a number of years of slow single digit growth overall, the European market continued to thrive in March. We are seeing a substantial growth out of Germany over last March with 17.3% growth; this brings YTD up 10.4% Similar growth can be seen from the U.K., with 15.4% growth over last March, pushing YTD growth to 8.8%

In our emerging markets, Mexico is still the rising star - and with signals that the visa on Mexico will be lifted this year we can expect them to become even greater. Some of the other emerging markets aren't performing quite as well however. Chinese visitation growth has slowed down significantly after an exciting January. Over last March it is up only 0.8% and YTD it is at 9.4%

This will continue to be monitored in months to come

*All statistics are in comparison to March 2015

Tourism Week is Fast Approaching!
Tell decision-makers why tourism matters to your community
#TourismWeek
#TourismMatters

Tourism Week in Canada is a grassroots initiative that brings attention to the economic opportunity available to Canada through travel and tourism and the public policy challenges preventing the sector from capitalizing on those opportunities.

This Tourism Week, communicate with decision-makers in your community to let them know about how public policy impacts your business.

Stage an event, hold a meeting, phone decision-makers, send emails or tweets, write an op-ed or a letter to the editor, or use the power of local media to let them know what issues matter to you.
