Government of Canada Now Matching Donations for Fort McMurray
|
TIAC would like to send our thoughts and best wishes to our friends in Fort McMurray and all those affected by the recent wildfires. The Government of Canada has announced that they will be matching all donations made through the Red Cross to help the people of Fort McMurray cope during this difficult time.
TIAC would like to encourage our members to help through donation or in any way possible. The tourism industry in Alberta and nation wide is strong, and now is the time to show we care.

From April 24-27 the travel and tourism world gathered at the Palais des congrès de Montréal for Rendez-Vous Canada (RVC) 2016. TIAC was proud to produce RVC in partnership with Destination Canada, which was bigger and better than ever. As the national voice of the travel and tourism sector, TIAC is committed to Canada's growth and competitiveness as an international travel destination. As such TIAC is uniquely positioned to advance the needs of the industry through the production of Canada's largest and premier tourism market place.
This year's RVC highlighted Canada's premier tourism businesses, hospitality and the diversity of our world-class tourism experiences. TIAC understands that the key to RVC's success is the quality of business conducted on the show floor. Over the course of RVC, over 1800 delegates representing 1128 companies and 28 different countries attended RVC, and 28400 appointments were held. These record numbers demonstrate the global interest in Canada as a destination of choice.
Outside the normal order of business, the various events, receptions, and lunches were a hit. In partnership with Brewster Travel Canada and Just For Laughs, TIAC hosted an exclusive Members Only reception for TIAC members and Buyers, and no delegate will forget the incredible sights and sounds of RVC's exclusive showing of Cirque de Soleil's Luzia. At the excellent lunches hosted by Brewster Travel Canada, the Aboriginal Tourism Association of Canada, and the Government of Canada, delegates heard several announcements about innovative and exciting Canadian tourism product.
We would like to thank Tourism Montreal and Tourism Quebec for their hard work and incredible hosting skills. We look forward to welcoming everyone next year in our host destination of Calgary Alberta. See you next year!

New Program Announced at RVC Set to Help Canadian Tourism Industry Succeed in the Growing Chinese Market
|
TIAC and Destination Canada join together
on next step of China ADS program
|
The Tourism Industry Association of Canada (TIAC) and Destination Canada (DC) announced a new China engagement strategy called the Canada-China Tourism Advancement (CCTA) program at Canada's premier international tourism marketplace, Rendez-Vous Canada 2016. CCTA expands on the Canada China Inbound Tour Operator Registration Program to help all members of Canada's tourism industry take advantage of growth opportunities in the Chinese marketplace.
"TIAC takes pride in the achievements of the ADS program including an average annual growth rate of 24% per year generating over $3B in revenue," said Charlotte Bell, President & CEO of TIAC. "However, the Chinese market is changing due to the new 10-year multiple visa, the growth of the Free and Independent Travel (FIT) segment, increased air capacity, as well as increased competition. TIAC understands that to truly capitalize on the opportunities, a more coordinated, sophisticated and broader platform needs to be developed."

February visitor numbers are in today, and things are looking very positive in almost all target markets. Despite the slight uptick in the Canadian dollar, Americans have taken notice of Canada, with visits up 20.5% over last February, which is phenomenal growth, especially in the Canadian winter months. Other international growth is up 8.3% over last February. This should indicate strong momentum for our industry's critical summer months. In the international market, Mexico is up 15% over last February, and South Korea topped the Asian market with 25.6% growth. Growth from Mexico is encouraging, and we can expect that the anticipated lifting of the Mexican visa in June will only continue to improve these numbers. Further, our mature markets in Europe are all seeing healthy growth, with France and Germany both up 5.9% YTD
*All statistics are in comparison to February 2015
