UPDATE ON ELECTRONIC TRAVEL AUTHORIZATION (eTA)
Voluntary Enrolment Period Starts August 1st, 2015
The eTA is a new entry requirement for air travellers from countries that currently DO NOT need a visa to visit Canada (excluding US citizens). As of August 1st, the eTA can be obtained online through a short questionnaire on the government's website and electronically linked to your passport number. Enrollment in eTA will be voluntary until March 15, 2016 at which time the eTA will become mandatory for entry to Canada.

TIAC will continue to update our website with information and supporting materials from Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC). Marketing efforts by CIC will start in December/January - it's imperative that we all work on spreading the word about this new requirement!

Stay tuned for more updates!

UPDATE ON TEMPORARY FOREIGN WORKER (TFW) PROGRAM

New Penalties Coming December 1st

As of December 1st, changes will be made to the Temporary Foreign Worker (TFW) Program in the form of stiffer penalties for anyone who abuses the TFW program and will provide TFWs with more protection.

For example, if a business is given notice of "non-compliance", they are subject to a 10 year hire ban through the program, and face fines of $500 - $100,000 to a maximum of $1 million per year. The regulations however do give employers the opportunity (30 days) to respond to any investigation, and allow for voluntary disclosure of mistakes made which leads to a lesser penalty.

For more information on the TWF Program and new consequences for employers that break the rules, please click here.
