Ottawa Tourism Awards Honour Industry Leaders 
TIAC's very own Grace Xin, National Director of the Canada-China Inbound Tour Operator Registration Program, was awarded the Tourism Volunteer of the Year for her dedicated work with the Ottawa Somerset Street Chinatown Business Improvement Area.

Grace continues to work diligently as well on the Canada-China Inbound Tour Operator Registration Program as the program celebrates its 5-year anniversary this June. Congratulations Grace!

CANADA 150!
Department of Canadian Heritage Launches the CANADA 150 Fund

The 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017 is quickly approaching, and the Canada 150 Fund is now officially open for applications!
 
The 2015 Federal Budget committed $210 million over four years for the Canada 150 Fund that will support activities, events and celebrations across Canada. 
There is no established deadline to submit a funding application under the Canada 150 Fund; however, Signature Initiatives, high impact, large-scale projects that are national in scope, need an Expression of Interest submitted by May 29, 2015.

 

The three funding streams within the Canada 150 Fund are:

  • Signature Initiatives (high impact, large-scale projects that are national in scope)
  • Community-driven Events
  • Anchor Events (ie. Canada Day week activities only)

Eligible funding recipients under the Canada 150 Fund include the following types:

  • Canadian not-for-profit organizations, including corporations, trusts, cooperatives and unincorporated associations;
  • Canadian business corporations, including partnerships, trusts and joint ventures where projects are non-commercial in nature;
  • Canadian schools; and,
  • Canadian municipal governments and their institutions.

Federal departments, agencies and institutions, Provincial and Territorial governments and their institutions, private individuals and political parties are not eligible under the Canada 150 Fund.

 

Application Deadline

 

There is no established deadline to submit a funding application under the Canada 150 Fund.

 

For Signature Initiatives, an Expression of Interest must be submitted by May 29, 2015. Applicants are encouraged to speak to the Department of Canadian Heritage before submitting an application.

The Tourism Industry Association of Canada congratulates David Whitaker on his new position as chief marketing officer of Brand USA, the national destination marketing organization that promotes travel to the US.
 
A true champion for Canada's travel and tourism industry, David's leadership includes serving 8 years as CEO of Tourism Toronto, a member of the TIAC Board of Directors and Leadership Circle and a trusted industry advisor to numerous Ministers of Tourism.
 
In his time as CEO of Tourism Toronto, David's team repeatedly set new records for overnight visitation, won numerous marketing awards and was instrumental in the bid committees to secure the Pan American/Para Pan American Games and the NBA All-Star for Toronto and Canada.
 
David could usually be heard saying, "You've always got a friend in Toronto," we hope the warm welcome extends to DC! From everyone here at TIAC we wish David every success in his new endeavour, and we look forward to his efforts to promote the wonders of two-nation vacationing in North America.

TIAC and the CTC invite you to take part in the Tourism Town Hall SeriesThis interactive forum will provide you with unparalleled insight on how TIAC and the CTC are working together to grow the visitor economy. The Tourism Town Hall Series provides a unique opportunity to share your ideas on how we can make Canada's tourism industry more competitive.
 

Tourism and hospitality business operators, tourism marketers, travel industry employees, government stakeholders, and local media are all welcome and encouraged to participate in this open dialogue.
