The Manitoba Fitness Council

Meeting the Needs of Rural Manitoba

The Manitoba Fitness Council has been in the process of updating and revising the certifications that are offered to better meet the needs of all new potential fitness leaders but especially those teaching in rural locations.

Here are the changes that have been implemented:
1.       Step one fitness Theory - is available either online ( via webinar) or in  a classroom
2.       Group fitness has been changed to a certification with three different certifications sport conditioning, group Cycle and Step and Choreography)
3.       Group Fundamentals ( the prerequisite for all group fitness certifications) is now available online!! via pre-recorded webinars
4.       Sport conditioning is our newest certification that focuses on classes that are taught in small communities where a gym space with little to no equipment is the  norm.
5.       We have lowered the numbers for our rural trainings to 4 participants!
6.       We have trained more rural course conductors and evaluators!

We would like to set up trainings in each region to increase our capacity to offer fitness opportunities in Manitoba communities.

Understanding Alzheimer's disease and other dementias can often be overwhelming and emotional, both for those who have been diagnosed with dementia and for family members or friends who support them.

It's important to remember that you are not alone and that the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba is here to help.

You can connect to the Society in several ways. Visiting our website or calling us directly are simple ways to get in touch. You might also be referred by your family physician.

If you live in the Interlake / Eastern region, upon contacting the Alzheimer Society you will be connected with Jackie Dokken, Program Coordinator.

 Fad Diets

Fad diets, not all they're cracked up to be.

Many fad diets claim to help you lose weight fast in a short period of time, but do they really work? While some people do lose weight when following the latest fad diet, the diets are not always healthy, they can be nutritionally unbalanced and weight loss is often temporary. For weight loss to last long term, it is important to make healthy changes to your lifestyle.
