BREAKING NEWS!
Pace Bill Leaps Another Hurdle - On Wednesday (5/8) SB 385 passed the House. This means one more step remains before it can be sent to the Governor. It must go back to the Senate for a final vote.

The 83rd Texas Legislature comes to an end on May 27 and Legislators are picking up the PACE. For the last couple of weeks TREIA has had eleven bills on a Hot/Special Attention List out of the 51 we have positions on and the additional 54 we are tracking. The Solar Foundation Releases U.S. Solar Jobs Numbers And Map

By Andrea Luecke, Executive Director, The Solar Foundation

April 18th, 2013

Through our National Solar Jobs Census series and other labor market research efforts, we have been working hard to raise public awareness of the employment value of the solar industry.

To this end, we are very proud to announce that our State Solar Jobs Map (www.solarstates.org) went live this morning. This interactive map provides the first-ever count of solar workers in each of the 50 states and includes individual state profiles containing figures on jobs as well as solar subsector ranks by employment, key solar policies, homes powered by solar, and a handful of other useful facts. Visitors can show their support for solar in their home state by sharing these profiles through social media and email.

Since I feel our map does such a great job telling each state's story, I don't want to reproduce the information it contains. What I would like to do in today's blog post, however, is provide a little bit of analysis.

  • Key Takeaways
  • Who's in the Lead?
  • A few more notable results:
  • What's Driving this Success?

Save the date for Intersolar North America 2013, being held for the sixth year in a row at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, and meet the international solar business community July 9-11, 2013.

Intersolar North America is recognized as North America's premier b2b exhibition and conference for the solar industry. It is the best opportunity to finalize your next major deal. S&C Electric $2.6MM Contract To Upgrade 585 MW Texas Wind Farm

Chicago, IL (May 6, 2013)

S&C Electric

S&C Electric Company, a global leader in renewable energy integration, today announces it was awarded a $2.6MM contract by Sweetwater Wind to upgrade a portion of their 585 MW wind farm in Sweetwater, Texas. This upgrade will enable Sweetwater Wind to meet new renewable energy generation interconnection standards that have been enacted in Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT).

Wind farm power production can rapidly change due to the intermittent nature of the source-ultimately creating voltage instability on power grids. Last year, ERCOT revised its grid code by modifying the reactive power capability requirements. The new standards require Sweetwater Wind to provide a lagging power factor capability of 0.95 or less and a leading power factor capability of 0.95 or less at the point of interconnection (POI). Sweetwater Wind turned to S&C for a solution to meet the new standards.

"S&C worked with Sweetwater Wind to evaluate the current system and develop the best long-term solution that can quickly meet the new requirements, which is critical to avoiding production curtailments," says Dan Girard, director -Renewable Energy and Energy Storage Business Development, S&C. "This upgrade will help Sweetwater Wind maximize its wind project production while ensuring the grid is protected."
