Greetings!

I hope everyone's enjoying a blessed transition to Winter.

I'm writing to share that the Board of Directors of the Earth Medicine Alliance, with my recommendation, agreed earlier this month to dissolve the organization.

As the executive director for three of the past four years and founder of the Alliance, this was not a decision that I took lightly. In brief, I found that maintaining two separate structures (my personal practice at www.ancestralmedicine.org and the non-profit) to be a less efficient and sustainable approach to Earth service. We also wrestled throughout the life of the organization with the challenges of needing to run a non-profit corporation like any other business. I found myself working these past years a part-time job that could easily become a full-time job in non-profit management, when my heart is more called to lead ritual, to teach, to cultivate spiritual family, and to finish my (first) book.

So...although there is sadness at the ending of what has been a beautiful communal creation, I also feel relief and a deep knowing that the energy spent tending the Alliance is already being redirected in life-affirming forms of service and Earth devotion. And I know this to be true for each of the board, staff, and dedicated volunteers who have given so much of their time and talents.

The message below shares some highlights from the past four years; I hope you'll take a moment to appreciate all that was done these past four years. Look for one final email from the Alliance next month with resources for earth-honoring spirituality and learning.

With gratitude,

Daniel

Annual Conferences: 2010-2013

In late October of this year, at our fourth of four annual conferences, we gathered in praise of the sacred mountains and other natural powers here in the Bay Area. For a slideshow of images from the gathering see link here. It was a truly inspired two days of ritual!

The annual conferences were at the heart of the Alliance's service; in our four years over 50 presenters reached nearly 400 attendees. As the organization founder, what I most loved about the conferences was joining people of truly diverse backgrounds, many of whom would not otherwise cross paths, for heart-felt collaboration and devotion.

If you attended one or more conferences, I say on behalf of the Alliance crew; thank you. Thanks for being a part of some really wholesome Earth magic, and for paying it forward in your own lives and relationships.

Voices of the Earth Project

Voices of the Earth Highlights: Ritual & Ceremony, Places of Spirit, Ancestors & Storytelling
Voices of the Earth Project Highlights
From 2010-2013 the Voices of the Earth Project produced 13 full-length interviews with diverse earth-honoring leaders and teachers.  This deeply satisfying interview project was led by Elaine Gast Fawcett and Victor Ibarra with the support of myself and other Earth Medicine Alliance volunteers.

These interviews have been and will continue to be available at no cost after the non-profit completes. When the Alliance website closes, the archive will be available through Youtube directly (link here) as well as through my personal site (link here). Thanks again to all those who participated in making this project a success over the past four years!

Other Alliance Events: 2010-2013

Black Diamond Mines Ritual In addition to the earth-honoring rituals during the second day of our annual conferences, the Earth Medicine Alliance also offered about a dozen stand-alone earth rituals, trainings, and community events in the Bay Area over the past four years.

The image to the right is from a ceremony at Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve in 2010 to honor spirits of place. We also gathered in praise of the natural powers and mountains around the Bay (e.g., events on Tamalpais, St Helena, Umunhum, and Hamilton).

Ifagbemi One focus of our work was supporting teachers of earth-honoring ways to reach a wider audience with their message and ministry. This included hosting Xhosa Sangoma John Lockley from South Africa in 2012 for several trainings on honoring the ancestors and our plant relations. Then in 2013 we hosted Baba Ifagbemi for teachings from Ifa/Orisha tradition on divination following our path of destiny.

From the 50+ presenters at our conferences, to our 13 interviewees, to event leaders like John and Ifagbemi, our team at the Alliance was truly blessed to enjoy time in sacred space with so many gifted teachers.
