Greetings!

In the days before our June 22nd gathering and after recent board discussions on the need to do some fundraising, I've been reflecting on the topic of wealth.

Many traditional cultures (and many aspects of modern culture) also measure wealth in terms of relationships. How many people will pray for you when you're sick, show up at your party, or miss you when you're gone? And aside from "how many", how deeply are you personally loving the people in your life and how much can you stand to be loved in return?

Despite our modest (and hopefully growing!) bank account, I feel the Alliance in just over three years has already made some friends from different camps and traditions; some with two legs and some with four, some who swim and some who crawl, some who are rivers and a few local mountains. Wealth resides also in these relationships.

In this spirit of community and relatedness, we invite you to join us this Saturday, June 22nd in S.F. for a Day of Visioning and Community. We're expecting 40-60 attendees, and we'll also be enjoying some light ritual with guest elders and teachers like Chandra Alexandre, Baba Ifagbemi, and Hua Anwa (no cost, lunch provided, details below).

Hope to see you soon!

With heart,

Daniel

This Saturday, June 22nd, 10am-4pm
San Francisco, CA

Our new mission statement reads, "The Earth Medicine Alliance encourages approaches to education and cultural change that harmonize traditional, indigenous ways of life with modern, Western science and culture." We're excited to invite *your* wisdom, experience, and inspiration on how to put this into practice.

The day will include visioning and dialogue focused on how the Alliance can embody our new mission. You'll meet the leadership of the Alliance (staff and board) and learn ways to get involved. We'll be sharing in circle with guest teachers such as Hua Anwa, Awo Ifagbemi, and Chandra Alexandre.

No cost to attend, and we're pleased to offer a free, healthy lunch on location (gluten-free and vegetarian options). Duration is 10am-4pm. Preregistering (even though it's this Saturday) with an email to paula@earthmedicine.org is still helpful. We hope you can join us in this time of growth and renewed inspiration! All are welcome!!! Mt Umunhum Teaching and Ritual
Autumn 2013

Mt. Umunhum The restoration underway on the summit of this S.F. Bay Area sacred mountain is truly exciting!  In addition to being in dialogue with Ohlone leaders, Mid-Pen Open Space (the current stewards of this land) has taken the step of including a ceremonial space as part of the final design for the restored summit (see video here at about 8 minutes in for the plan on the ceremonial space).

After producing 13 full-length interviews with diverse earth-honoring elders, our Voices of the Earth Project will be venturing this year into producing a documentary short on the story, magic, and inspirational story underway at Mt Umunhum. As part of this story-telling we are currently planning a community teaching on and around the mountain in Autumn of 2013 (stay tuned for details). If you would like to be part of a collaborative team of storytellers and film-makers, please reach out to the Director of the Voices project, Elaine Gast Fawcett (elaine@earthmedicine.org).
