MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF SCHOOL
HELENA LEVINE
As a community, we continually learn from one another. Wisdom is commended. Our youngest learners gain the most from interaction with their respected elders. Our forefathers learn with joy from, and admiration for, those who have the world at their fingertips, embracing and discovering knowledge every step of the way.

This past Tuesday, under the auspices of the Grandparents' and Special Friends' Outreach Committee, our Welcome Meet & Greet Coffee took place. It was a wonderful way to not only bring the generations together, but to also showcase the new, innovative and exciting programs and enhancements that benefit our school community (from Kindergartners to grandparents).

Co-President of the Grandparents' and Special' Friends' Outreach Committee and DKJA grandparent Mrs. Carla Klein welcomed those who gathered in our beautiful new Prayer Space. She and colleague Mrs. Rhonnie Leder, who was unable to attend, have created an amazing program through which connections to DKJA are created, strengthened and shared, and through which fundraising, volunteerism and tikkun olam thrive.

Development Director Mr. Scott Ball, Admissions Director Mrs. Jodi Orshan, DKJA alumna Ms. Terri Samuels, Senior Director of Community Engagement Mrs. Sharon Kamber, Associate Director of Development Mrs. Judith Chason and I greeted guests and then encouraged them to share a bit about themselves. Afterward, the group learned about innovation at DKJA in what better place than the Makerspace. The Makerspace was bustling with activity right alongside the video presentations and conversations that guests enjoyed. A tour culminating with refreshments made the morning nothing short of exquisite.

"As I reflect back on the week, I am reminded of how precious it is for new grandparents and special friends when they visit our school for the first time," noted Mrs. Sharon Kamber, who organized the program. "Seeing four generations in our Makerspace, from fifth-grade students, to our faculty, to parents and grandparents/special friends, touched my heart and soul. It is the reason why I am here. We finished our wonderful week with Kindergarten parents, teachers and administrators enjoying an ice cream social in their classroom, hosted by the PTO, as they celebrated the first month of school. What an experience, which can best be described as emotional and engaging. That is what our purpose here is all about."

Kol HaKavod for all who collaborated to bringing our mission to life through heartfelt engagement. What an amazing week! We are a community in the true sense of the word.

Reminder: We still have two more Curriculum Nights next week. We look forward to seeing our K-4 parents on Tuesday September 20th and our sixth-grade parents on Thursday, September 22nd.

Shabbat Shalom,
Head of School

Helena Levine
Dear DKJA Community,

Many of our families may have heard that our beloved sixth-grade teacher, Morah Yona Wolfe, has not been at school in order to take care of her health. She is currently at home resting comfortably, and although visiting those who are ill (bikkur cholim) is a great mitzvah, Morah Wolfe has requested not to have visitors. She has been overwhelmed with the outpouring of support, and she is extremely grateful for all of our prayers, letters and meals. If you would like to share a card or would like to participate in providing meals by giving a donation, please leave envelopes in Morah Sammy Chukran-Lontok's office.

We have added her to our Mishaberach (prayer for those who are ill) list that is recited during school Tefillah, and we kindly request you add her name to your prayers as well:  Yona Tova bat Luba

With blessings for a complete healing,

Rabbi Baruch Plotkin
Rabbi in Residence
