INNOVATION & EXCELLENCE!

MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF SCHOOL

HELENA LEVINE

As we complete our third week of school, we are in full swing for the 2016-17 academic year. We have begun our curriculum nights, and throughout the next few weeks, we will continue to welcome our parents and inform them about the exciting learning happening in classrooms at every grade level. Please reference the schedule provided below for the remaining programs by grade.

Innovation and academic excellence make us proud every day! Our Makerspace curriculum continues to evolve. Leadership opportunities abound. Creativity is everywhere! The video at the top of the newsletter was produced by Claire and Emanuel G. Rosenblatt High School at DKJA junior Robbie Shinder, who just completed an intensive summer film program at Harvard University. Robbie is doing independent study in film this semester, and he is facilitating the video elective in our new Makerspace Studio under the guidance of Dr. Rebecca André. Kol Hakavod!

The leadership and maturity of our Rosenblatt High School students was never more apparent than on Tuesday evening, when my role as Head of School merged with that of being a proud parent. I immensely enjoyed attending Tuesday night's Senior Year Expectations Meeting. It truly was an evening of learning about the academic year for 12th graders, but most importantly, I enjoyed being enlightened about the upcoming March of the Living program, in which my son will participate. How fortunate our children are to have these opportunities, and to keep the importance of L'Dor Vador (From Generation to Generation) as a top priority.

Sharing in traditions is an integral part of our daily lives at DKJA. As we prepare for the High

Holy Days, the sounds of the shofar emanate from our classrooms and gathering places. Our fourth-graders enjoyed participating in the annual tradition of the Shofar Factory, where they transformed their individual ram's horns, working diligently during an interactive, hands-on workshop. All grade levels are studying the holidays, and honing their shofar blowing skills. Even our Kindergartners have mastered it, as you can see here.

Commemoration is such an important component of living respectful lives. In recognition of this, throughout all divisions, special age-appropriate programs took place for the anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks. Eighth-graders joined Rosenblatt High School students at the weekly Town Hall meeting; Middle School students discussed the event in history classes, and as an entire school community, a minute of silence was observed during the morning announcements. What a week it was...

Shabbat Shalom,

Helena Levine

Head of School

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT TRAFFIC/

CONSTRUCTION DELAYS

Beginning Monday, September 12th, underground utility work will take place on sections of Ruth & Baron Coleman Blvd, just north of the Yeshiva High School construction site. The work is necessary to link YHS with the rest of the campus, and will take approximately 18 days to complete.

The construction zone will have signage, and will be barricaded according to FDOT standards, including flagmen present who will be directing traffic.

The traffic pattern will be periodically reduced to one lane from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and traffic movement will be controlled by the flagmen.
At the conclusion of each workday, the roadway will revert back to normal, with one lane in each direction.

Please exercise extreme caution when driving through the construction zone during this period.
Thank you for your cooperation while we make these necessary improvements.
