"It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge," - Albert Einstein As a former teacher and lifelong educator, I could not feel more in touch with this quote from one of the
greatest minds to ever impact the world. An educator at heart, Albert Einstein saw the beauty in uniqueness, and in inspiring students to be thinkers and masters of their talents. This week, we had many opportunities to see the passion of our students not only come to life, but also be recognized. On Tuesday evening, May 31st, Claire and Emanuel G. Rosenblatt High School gathered for its awards ceremony for students in grades 9 through 11. At the ceremony, students in each academic subject from each grade level were recognized based on their achievements. In addition to academic awards, students were also honored for their contributions to our community. Eight members of the junior class also received renowned book awards from prestigious colleges and universities or academic-centered organizations. For a complete description of the book awards, please click here. This afternoon, old and new traditions warmed our hearts. For the first time in school history, the senior
class ran the halls of the school buildings as their final farewell of their education here. The joy was contagious!
Also this afternoon, our Rosenblatt High School Senior Awards and Rose Ceremony took place, which was another pride-filled moment. Outstanding achievement in a diverse array of categories, including academics, athletics, performing and visual arts, community service and leadership, was recognized. (Click here for the complete list of honorees.) A touching rose ceremony took place to honor each and every one of our amazing seniors, who on Sunday, will commence the first day of their post-secondary careers. After they graduate on June 5th, they will embark upon opportunities beyond our imagination. We wish them all the best, and we know that their joy has been awakened. Kol HaKavod to the Class of 2016. I wish all of you a Shabbat Shalom, Helena Levine Head of School |

HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK - KINDNESS IS EVERYWHERE!

KINDERGARTEN
This week's school happenings included a special visit from DKJA alumna Madison Silver, who is Miss South Florida Teen and Miss Florida Teen. Madison is the creator of the #slamALS initiative to help raise funds for research to help find a cure for ALS. She recently visited DKJA and shared information about #slamALS and how kindness to one another is so important. She posed with smiling Kindergarten students whose classroom bulletin board proudly shows they are the "Kings and Queens of Kindness."
THIRD GRADE
Third-grade students are reading The Lemonade War by Jacqueline Davies. The book combines friendly sibling rivalry, basic economics and understanding of people's strengths and weaknesses. Each class in the grade level decided to create teams that would compete in their own "lemonade war," proceeds from which will be donated as Tzedakah to local charities. Kindness really is everywhere at DKJA!

HANDS-ON LEARNING
A furry friend visited DKJA this week as part of a unique way to teach and learn.
Mrs. Julie Baker, DKJA Registrar, and her son Corey (sixth grade) brought their therapy dog, Kelsey, to visit first graders. The students' literacy unit focused on animals.
"This week, our essential question was: 'How do people work with animals?' We learned so much from Kelsey and how she works with people to help them feel better," said teacher Ms. Stephanie Schoenberger.
