Shabbat Candlelighing 7:41 p.m.

This week, we were privileged near and far as a community to experience a range of emotions, from sadness and grief, to exhilaration and joy, during Yom Hazikaron (Israel's day of honoring the fallen and missing) and Yom Ha'Atzmaut (Israel Independence Day). Our Claire and Emanuel G. Rosenblatt High School seniors completed their March of the Living journey throughout Poland and continued on to Israel, and our eighth-graders embraced Israel in the most impactful ways, beyond their expectations.

On Yom Hazikaron, although thousands of miles away yet connected in spirit, our school community of Middle School and Rosenblatt High School students, parents, grandparents, dear friends and loved ones, were touched by a heartfelt commemoration honoring Israel's fallen soldiers of Israel, those missing in action and the victims of terrorist acts.

Presented by Mrs. Iris Dahoah, Mrs. Eilat Brenner and Mrs. Lydia Zafrir, the moving ceremony

incorporated music, dance, prayer, solemnity and solidarity. The unifying assembly honored the fallen and missing in an exceptional way, and I could not have been more proud. Kol Hakavod to all who participated, and who made the commemoration unique and special. Please watch the video.

Our emotions switched to joy the following day, when on Thursday, a sea of blue and white flags and adornments greeted us in honor of Yom Ha'Atzmaut. For Israel's 68th birthday, Dedication Plaza was transformed into a festive venue filled with music, dancing and revelry. What a celebration it was. Thank you to Mrs. Yafa Levit, Principal of Lower School Judaic
Studies, and her team, who truly made the day special.

As we prepare for Shabbat, the joyous memories should remind us that as a people, we are strong, resilient and blessed. With that in mind, I encourage you to please join our community on Jewish Unity Day, presented by the Deborah and Larry D. Silver Center for Jewish Engagement, on June 6th at FAU. Please click here for the information. It is an evening not to be missed.

Next week, we will welcome our world-travelers home, and continue with our experiential education, learning in unique ways. It is hard to believe that we only have four weeks remaining in the school year. Although the

time is short, it is full of end-of-year highlights and events. Please be sure to reference the school calendar to keep up-to-date.

I wish you a Shabbat Shalom.

Sincerely,
Helena Levine

HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK

UNIQUE MEZUZAH ART ADORNS DKJA'S DOORWAYS

Several doorways on our campus now have beautiful mezuzot hanging on them that give
unique meaning to our school. Coinciding with this week's Parsha, Kedushim, the tradition of providing holiness to our doorways now and for generations to come was very signficant. The Main Office entrance's mezuzah was replaced with a beautiful ceramic mezuzah created by fifth-grader Gabby Jacobs. Gabby, a student in Mrs. Allie Hasson's ceramics club, was chosen for the honor of having her mezuzah hung after winning a contest for her outstanding talent. A short walk down the hallway, passersby entering the Middle School Art Room will notice a beautiful mezuzah in the style of Chihuly (one of the artists studied in Meet the Masters) hanging on the doorway. The new mezuzah was created, donated and hung this week by art volunteer Mrs. Lisa Simberg and Middle School art teacher Mrs. Carol Routman. Kol Hakavod!

DKJA STUDENTS SELECTED FOR DUKE PROGRAM

By Mrs. Sydney Siegel, Director of Student Services

This year, we are very pleased to announce that 30 students in seventh grade qualified to take either the SAT or ACT test for the Duke Talent Identification Program (TIP) based on their standardized test scores from either fifth or sixth grade. Of these students, Hannah Appleton, Isabella Gerstin, Abigail Goodman, Aliya Gottesfeld, Nina Hamuy, Joshua Rosenblatt, Noah Rubin and Levi Stein were recognized as Duke TIP State scholars for their exceptional scores on either the SAT or ACT test. Additionally, Abigail Goodman received Grand Recognition for her superior scores on the SAT test. Students in these two categories are eligible to participate in summer programs as various universities throughout the United States. The success of these students overall is a testament to their tenacity and innate love of learning. Kol Hakavod to all of the students on this very impressive academic accomplishment.

For the first time this year, DKJA was enrolled in the Duke Talent Identification Program for fifth and sixth grade students. Fifth and sixth grade students were eligible to participate based on their standardized test scores from previous years. We are pleased to announce that 38 students among our fifth and sixth graders were eligible for this honor. Mazel tov!

were privileged to hear a presentation on the topic of "Ethics in the Field" by Col. Bentzi Gruber. Students also watched the movie Beneath the Helmet and enjoyed an Israeli lunch.

Col. Bentzi Gruber is Vice Commander (reserves) of Division 252, an armored division of 20,000 soldiers. He is founder of "Chesed In The Field," a non-profit that brings together IDF reservists and chronically ill and disabled children, instilling the values of community and social responsibility in the hearts of thousands of soldiers. Col. Gruber also established "Ethics in the Field" to shatter myths and present the facts missing in today's discussion of Israeli counter terrorism.

A graduate of Yeshivat Har Etzion and the Jerusalem Institute of Technology (Machon Lev), Col. Gruber received a PhD from the The International University of Business and Law (London).

He serves on the boards of Yeshivat Har Etzion and Ohr Torah Stone, and the ethics committees of the Eitanim and Kfar Shaul Hospitals and has spoken at national conferences, community events, synagogues, military academies, college campuses, and middle and high schools around the world. Special thanks to the Jewish National Fund for making the program possible.
