Dear DKJA Community,
The energy of last weekend was indescribable, when the spectacular cast members of High School Musical, under the leadership and direction of Mrs. Zoraida Adams, sang and danced their hearts out! In addition to the onstage performers, the behind-the-scenes crew is to be commended for ensuring that two seamless shows, with elaborate set changes and intricate choreography, entertained audiences from near and far. Not only was I thrilled to make my acting debut as Ms. Tenny, I had the opportunity of a lifetime to share the stage with such exceptional talent. Special tribute was paid to the graduating seniors, many of whom have been a part of the Drama Program since its first performances. Kol Hakavod for a job well done, and with such enthusiasm!
Striving for Excellence... Our talented team of educators could not do what they do best without opportunities for learning, growth and enrichment.Today's half-day of school, dedicated to professional development, enabled us to continue striving for excellence in the classroom. The same standards of excellence are adhered to by our staff and administration. With that in mind, we take great pride in our efforts to communicate about the exceptional education provided at DKJA.
Communication
Communication is always at the forefront, and with our parent-teacher conferences this week for Claire and Emanuel G. Rosenblatt High School, and next week for grades K-8, the faculty and I look forward to seeing our parents on campus. Conferences are an important part of your child's education, and a tool for information sharing and communication between home and school.
In addition to the information that is shared at conferences, should questions arise, we have compiled an excellent K-8 resource list for you to find answers you may need. You can access it by clicking here.

Communication reaches beyond the classroom and our campus. As we are all aware, social media is part of our daily lives in some shape or form. Even if you are not an avid user, your children are affected by it. Yesterday, we were privileged to host Mr. Todd Gutnick, ADL's National Vice President for Marketing & Communications. Mr. Gutnick is based in ADL's National Headquarters in New York City. He and members of his team develop, coordinate, and implement ADL's strategic response to the news media on national and international news stories, and maintain breaking news content on ADL's website. He discussed ADL's focus on cyberhate and online harassment, and how it encompasses a broad realm of platforms, including online gaming and social media. The organization strives to implement and maintain standards that are free of hate, solutions that social media companies can promote for safe environments, and a road map for reporting incidents of cyberhate. Special thanks to DKJA parent and Florida ADL Regional Director Hava Holzhauer and Associate Director of Development (and former DKJA parent) Tanya Miller for bringing the program to DKJA.
Shabbat Shalom, Helena Levine Head of School

math project. The sixth-grade math class will celebrate with a "party to Vegas," where they will play mathematical games using dice, cards and board games. This project-based learning was a successful way to engage the students.
The project required that each group research and plan a vacation. The assignment educated them about how to apply math skills taught in class when on a vacation, and using a budget. The students had to do their own research to see how much specific expenses "added up" while using their budget, and what percentages of the budget applied to each area of the trip. All students in the Pi group did a great job, learned and had fun! Special thanks to Mrs. Tina Kranitz for her assistance.

YOUR ASSISTANCE IS NEEDED - PLEASE COMPLETE AVI CHAI SURVEY
Dear Parents,
We are writing to advise you of an important study in which our school is participating. The Avi Chai Foundation has launched a nationwide study of the goals and expectation for Hebrew language education in Jewish day schools. As a token of appreciation to participants,
the Foundation is offering the chance to win a pair of tickets to Israel to all parents who take part.
As part of the study, DKJA has been asked to field three separate surveys for the following:
- Students in grades 5th, 8th and 11th
- Hebrew language and Jewish studies specialists and teachers
- All school parents
In order to ensure that the views of all of our school's stakeholders are taken into account, it's vital that parents complete the survey. This will allow the research team to gain a more in-depth understanding of your expectations and impressions of Hebrew language learning within the school.
As a benefit of participating, our school will receive our own individualized data report and resources to help support the planning and provision of the Hebrew language. Responses from our school will be compared to the aggregate collected from all participating schools.
Everything you and your child share through the survey will be completely anonymous.
Only one parent per family should complete the survey. Please do so within a week. It should take 15-20 minutes to complete. You can access the survey by following this link:
Thank you for your assistance.
