Shabbat Candlelighing 6:06 p.m.
Dear DKJA Community,

Our school prides itself on instilling a culture of leadership - it's part of our everyday life. When I see examples of how this is carried out beyond the classroom doors, I am pleased, but I'm not at all surprised. Our culture of leadership knows no bounds.

Never was this more apparent than when I learned about an award recipient in our school community who, even though he's only in third grade, has demonstrated the leadership and character of an adult. I would like to take this opportunity to say KOL HAKAVOD to David Ostroff, pictured above, who this Sunday will be presented with the Clayton Feig Award by the Epilepsy Fou
ndation of Florida.

The award is given in recognition of outstanding and creative efforts by a youth with epilepsy who serves as an instrumental source of inspiration. David has performed many mitzvot through his involvement with the organization, and created a team called the "Keppie Krew." Each time he is faced with a challenge, he always includes G-d and Torah in his discussions.

David is a true mensch, respected by his peers, and one who truly epitomizes DKJA's culture of leadership! Our school community will be proudly thinking of David and his family on Sunday when he is presented with his award. Mazel tov!

Promoting leadership and respect for others, and intolerance of hatred in the world, is a message that was communicated earlier this week to c
ommunity members and Claire and Emanuel G. Rosenblatt High School students during a special presentation by Rabbi Abraham Cooper, Associate Dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center. The center is a leading Jewish human rights organization with over 40
0,000 members. Rabbi Cooper is founding member of Israel's Global Forum on anti-Semitism and Newsweek/Daily Beast lists Rabbi Cooper as #8 among the "50 Most Influential Rabbis in the United States." Rabbi Cooper presented a captivating discussion, including examples of how social media is used in detrimental ways, and a poignant look at the state of global anti-Semitism. He spoke to students about ways in which they can be prepared as they embark on their college careers so that they can help stem the tide of anti-Israel biases on campuses. A brief video clip is included...please take a moment to watch it. Special thanks to DKJA parents Mr. Isaac Klein and Mrs. Caryn Siperstein- Klein for facilitating the presentation, and for hosting a pre-event gathering at their home prior to Rabbi Cooper's visit to DKJA.

In closing, I am excited to announce the winner of DKJA's tuition scholarship raffle for the
2016-17 school year...the family of Chloe Friedman. The drawing took place this morning in Dedication Plaza following musical performances by DKJA students.

Mazel tov!

Shabbat Shalom,
