Dear DKJA Community,

Our
Great Kindness Challenge last week continues to receive excellent reviews, and the individual acts of kindness performed by students of every age are absolutely remarkable. One DKJA Kindergartner, Moises Goldner, made an impressive donation to Coins for Kenya to assist with building a school for children in that country. After watching a video about Coins for Kenya (which also was distributed in last week's
Moises Goldner
HaShavua), and learning about helping others not as fortunate as him and his classmates, he decided to not have a birthday party and to instead donate the money that his parents would have spent on a party. Inspirational? Yes...beyond words! Many other stories such as this also have been brought to my attention. Kol Hakavod!

The emphasis on kindness, and its importance, has been documented in publications such as The Washington Post, which recently published the article To Get Into College, Harvard Report Advocates for Kindness Instead of Overachieving. While parents often encourage their children to "do the most" to stand out and have exceptional resumes and college applications, the article cites a report by Making Caring Common titled "Turning the Tide: Inspiring Concern for Others and the Common Good Through College Admissions." The report was produced by the Harvard Graduate School of Education. It highlights the importance of community engagement, kindness and authenticity, and how they are taking priority over impressive lists of achievements that don't necessarily convey compassion and tikkun olam (repairing the world).

As you can see in the photo at the top of this article, our Claire and Emanuel G. Rosenblatt High School students are well on their way to a strong foundation in acts of kindness. They recently had the opportunity to interact with Holocaust survivors as part of the Better Together/Legacy Heritage Foundation program facilitated by Community Service Coordinator Dr. Yoram Dahav. What an amazing program of L'Dor Vador (generation to generation). Kindness at its finest!

Please take a moment to read the Washington Post article (click this link), and please continue to keep up the GREAT work. #DKJAkind.

In closing, I would like to take this opportunity remind our school community to join me and an amazing group of my colleagues who will each be presenting at the upcoming program "A Night of Inspiration" on Tuesday, February 9th at 7 p.m. at Olympic Heights High School. New perspectives and personal messages of hope will be delivered, and there will be "something for everyone." Please join us! Register today, and find more details, at this link: http://www.jewishboca.org/inspiration.

25 Exquisite Wines at "DKJA Wall of Wines"

The Office of Institutional Advancement is requesting donations of wine for its "Wall of Wines," which will provide a bidder with a collection of white and red wines, and will kick-off a great selection of Live Auction items.

Interested contributors are being asked to donate one bottle of white and/or one bottle of red.  Bottles may be dropped off at the DKJA Development Office. It is recommended that wines have a score of 90 or above.  A wine rating of 90 ensures an excellent quality, and there are hundreds of choices starting at $25.
